I placed the setting of Distressed within a fictional restaurant that audibly catches fire and burns down. Everyone flees, leaving but one lonely pianist to finish the piece to their dying breath. I felt this metaphor was a good parallel to the message in the lyrics. The instrumental was kept deliberately simple to hopefully convey a sense of loneliness, despite the chaos in the background.
