20 July 2013 Draft version of another love song. This time, really trying to channel Robert Smith and The Cure.  Done in Logic Pro X.

Posted new mix 21JULY. More compression. EQ. A little re-balancing.

Another new mix posted 25JULY. More tweaking - fixed some bad notes, sped up the mid section tempo a tad, and fiddled with stuff. 

Hm. Can't stop tweaking this one... New mix 05AUG: tried to balance a little better and get some of the nasal quality out of the vocal.

08MAY: More and less EQ and compression, tweaking the mix again. Added some vocal parts and ornaments... Not sure it's an improvement, but last night's mix seemed to take the guts out of it...

Much later 07MAY: EQ'd the guitars so they weren't stomping on the vocals, and tweaked the mix a bit. Still plan to add some ornaments near the end...

07MAY: Wow! Thanks for the comments, guys! Very helpful. Today: a new version that's a full-blown tune in the style of one of my favorite bands: Pop Will Eat Itself (For those who don't know, PWEI opened for NIN on NIN's American tour in the mid-90's and I think NIN actually opened for PWEI in Europe around the same time! I've been a fan forever, and have finally managed to do something that sounds a bit like them. ) Overnight, I fleshed out the lyrics, and I laid down the vocals during lunch today. Still needs tweaking, but I'm pretty happy with it overall...

06MAY: New file includes some vocals, some tweaking, and a little bit more structure. Most of the development is in the first half of the tune, so don't hold your breath for it to get better near the end ;^) It's feeling like a Pop Will Eat Itself style to me, which is a first...

This one is special because all of the music (and the title) was done by current device (Scott Kauffman) and posted on soundcloud as an instrumental. I was fascinated by the track, and was starting to hear some lyrics in my head, so I wrote them down and overdubbed my vocals onto Scott's instrumental track. 

I've said this before about Scott's stuff: his musical idea tracks are often fully-realized dynamic pieces of music that are perfectly structured and paced for lyrical content. The words seem to fit like magic, and I find myself going places with them that I never would have even considered without his brilliant music to support them. Scott's a modest and unassuming guy, and he graciously allowed me to release this track.

An old man reliving the joys of his youth, when he was blazing trails into analog synthesis at the the Boston School of Electronic Music in the 70's - currently using Propellerheads' Reason V10 with various Rack Extensions and VSTis...
