When I paint Eden,
waves from my violin
roll gently 
over hill slopes.
Rainbows I summon
pour their colors
over groves and meadows.

This is Eden – outside of time.
Here, a secret ladder 
leads to heaven,
where gods descend
and mortals rise.

Birds arrive
from all horizons,
soft winds
meet here from afar,
weaving melodies of wonder. 

Butterflies, bees,
and nimble sprites,
fill the air with hum 
and frolic,
catching drops of light,
kissing yearning flowers.

From this eternal garden
whispers of joy take wing
and spread to all horizons.

One messenger
is sent for you
to lay a feather and a petal
beside your pillow.
A calling home.
Back to Eden -
the well of all beginnings,
the well of Life.

Unmoved is the most vulnerable I’ve ever been about my experience existing as a Black woman in this world. The cover of this record is a photograph from my last year of innocence, at the age of 3. It would be a year later and my first week of school when I’d be sitting alone at recess because the girls decided I couldn’t play because I was Black. That was the start of a lifetime of resistance. First resisting my Blackness and then resisting the world. Whether the blacktop or the boardrooms, I continue to navigate a world that refuses to see me. The Black woman’s power is feared by many - and rightfully so - we are forces in all our divinity, but we are not immortal warriors. We are human beings deserving of a world that values us. We are told we aren’t as beautiful, or ‘marketable’, or deserving, or important, or as ‘delicate’, yet we continue to invent and innovate. I mourn Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Oluwatoyin Salau, Dominique Fells, and the many more Black cis, trans, queer, disabled, and/or unhoused sisters, the world continues to fail. We are the unseen and unheard too often, but it is for those reasons that I dare to be unmovable in my resistance and resilience. This is not to be romanticised in a world where self love is unexpected. But to endure, to be joyous, to be liberated, to know a positive peace is the most defiant and revolutionary choice we have. This song is my every uttered whisper and prayer. It is every heartbreak, micro-aggression, breakdown in the bathroom, and every swallowed fit of rage. But most importantly it is every single moment I remembered the walking poems that are my Black sisters, the breathing reasons to continue fighting to forge a path forward. So here I remain unmovable and unmoved.
