Almost four years after their inaugural release, Bangkok-via-Karachi record label Jugaar gear up to drop 'JR004', a bold statement from Berlin-based producer Amand, formerly known as She’s Drunk...Our pick from the release is Sam Interface’s rework of 'Step In' - a rugged, 3-minute blitz through the shadowy underbelly of digital dancehall. Dubbed-out rhythms and lo-fi echoes wrap around Ijahbar’s commanding vocals, gliding through twisted UK bass frequencies and blazing breakbeats. It feels like stumbling across glitching portals in a dystopian yard, where every beat feels like a reckless thrill.

Next up on Karachi's @jugaar-records is Berlin-based DJ and producer @amand_sound, FKA She's Drunk, who returns from a 5 year production hiatus and dovetails neatly with the label's sound.

His new 4-track EP is, in his own words, 'a melting pot of experiments', which includes a collaboration with Jamaican MC Ijahbar, 'Step In'. Mangled drums, warped synth tones and chattering claps form a high-energy backing for Ijahbar's flow.

With its roots in Karachi and Bangkok, Jugaar Records is a label working to shine a light on the vibrant scenes in both territories whilst casting a wide net in scooping up producers from around the world who dial in with their open minded approach to music.

So far the catalogue has been richly varied and full of hybrid, odd-ball club music that touches on sub-heavy strains of Electro, Breaks, Minimal and Bass.

Next up is Berlin based Amand - FKA She's Drunk - who returns from a 5 year production hiatus and dovetails neatly with the label's sound. JR004 is a 4-track pack of tightly wound steppers which in his words is 'a melting pot of experiments' including a collaboration with Jamaican MC Ijahbar.

'Nuna' kicks off with a stripped back but full-bodied sound that sends cleverly braided percussion skipping over a hefty UK Funky bone-structure. Smooth synths, bashy bass tones and some trippy seasoning make for a dizzying brew.

'Step In' follows up and features Kingston based, Roolings Muzik head Ijahbar. Mangled drums, warped synth tones and chattering claps form a high-energy backing for Ijahbar's flow and the result is raw, stroppy and infectious.

'Vissi' follows up with warped Electro tool. Robotic bleeps, frazzled percussion and panned melodic blobs create a sparse, impactful bridge track that'll pop out of DJ sets with memorable force.

Sam Interface then closes things up with his take on 'Step On'. Upfront and overdriven, his revision harnesses the original whilst injecting it with a certain bouncy charm that adds yet another shade to a nicely varied record.
