Sometimes people give you the best present without even realising.

While on lockdown Daddy duties, Michel De Hey's daughter had a friend come to play. It gave him that elusive golden studio moment where he could finish an idea he'd been working on, but hadn't found the time to take it over the line. That friend's name was Nova.

'Nova Was Here' pays homage to that classic foundation house sound as Michel puts his Roland SH101 through its paces. A purring bassline, soft focus jacking beats and lavish springy keys.

Long-time friend and kindred spirit, Spectrum founder Joris Voorn agreed and sealed the deal with a much heavier, pulsating 3am twist on the rework. Michel calls it a 'slapintheface' remix and enjoyed every moment of the two weeks he could play it to real life dancefloors until clubs shut back down in The Netherlands. Another stunner from the label boss and a mix that can finally be unveiled for all to enjoy.

Born Pedro Maia, Mochakk is a 22-year-old sensation whose thrilling persona behind the decks matches his prolific production. Growing up in the midst of fashion, hip-hop, and skating culture, he attended fashion school for six months and found his musical start as a beatmaker before eventually pivoting to electronic music full-time. Following his discovery of house music in particular, he became a dedicated student of the genre and used that to his advantage as he progressively made waves in his home country of Brazil, both as a meticulous producer and mesmerizing performer. In recent months, his presence has gone global as he’s embarked upon an expansive North American tour with multiple sold out dates in tow, dominated a laundry list of festivals internationally, done B2B sets with the likes of Vintage Culture, and is now headed toward a slot at the sacred stages of Ibiza this summer. With standout releases like “False Need” via Black Book alongside an exponentially growing fanbase with over 1 million followers, not to mention a smash forthcoming remix for The Martinez Brothers and a brilliant collaboration with the ever-inventive Chloé Caillet, Mochakk is prepared for his breakout moment in the underground and the main stage alike.

Joining us for our 3rd Birthday show on Friday 13th February is Moscow based producer / DJ, Lay-Far.

He has been kind enough to contribute to our mix series and in the process has surely delivered one of our favourites to date.

In true So Flute fashion, Lay-Far covers thousands of miles throughout the hour long mix, covering groove music created worldwide over several continents.

The journey begins with broken beat from Scotland in the form of Linkwood, followed by a section dedicated to Latin American grooves, including one of his own edit's of Mexican jazz fusion pioneer, Carlos Santana.

The mix continues on a broken beat tip, sliding into dancefloor ready soulful house music. After an afro house classic by Osunlade, Lay-Far moves back into the eclectic with a healthy dose of lively jazz-funk & soul to complete a banging mix. If like us you were left wanting more, you can catch him at our 3rd Birthday at The Roadhouse where he will be making his MCR debut.
