This month we are proud to share a potent hour long mix by San Francisco based DJ and AI music researcher Airali.

From Airali – "I had the idea of a nightare unfolding as a guide". 

While this isn't a traditional a dance mix, it contains the same hypnotic signatures as Airali's club sets. Undulating rhythmic through-lines coax us through a hazy cinematic atmosphere that never lets us get too comfortable. It's not all dark however – the occasional sprinkling of analog instrumentation and ethereal vocals amid machine-chaos and dense percussion conjures flora blooming in a concrete landscape.

Previously based in the UK, Airali has played in London-based clubs, including FOLD, Corsica Studios, Venue MOT, and The Glove That Fits, to name a few. In 2022, she completed a mini tour of Japan where she DJ'd at venues Circus, Spread and Forestlimit. More recently, Airali relocated to and debuted in California, where she has played in Oakland and San Francisco. You can dig more into Airali here:

Female Wizard’s cross-genre DJ set will baffle the binary, delaying gratification and embracing dissonance to transform hedonism into an act of defiance. Blended tempos with visceral intensity mirror her fascination with the fragility and power of breath, a recurring motif in both her music and performance art. They performed as part of a collaboration with cutting-edge Australian arts organization SOFT CENTRE which took over RSO.Berlin's Summer floor.

This 1986 album from Toyah & Fripp Featuring The League Of Crafty Guitarists, "The Lady Or The Tiger?" became the foundation for this mix— a place to begin, and a space to wonder:

and leaves questions unanswered.

exploring ¨·.·¨·.·
"Turn on, tune in, drop out"- a counterculture-era phrase popularized by Timothy Leary in 1966. In 1967, Leary spoke at the Human Be-In, a gathering of 30,000 hippies in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and phrased the famous words.

Released on vinyl in 1968, Turn on Tune in Drop Out is a spoken word but with sparse haunting  guitar and tabla music over it. Unlike anything that came before the narration here sounds as if the voices are beamed down from somewhere in the stratosphere. On this lengthy album, Leary can be heard speaking in a monotone soft voice on his views about the world and humanity, describing nature, Indian symbols, "the meaning of inner life", the LSD experience, peace, and many other issues.

The mix draws from some of those spoken passages, reworking them into a collage-like, immersive listening experience. It captures the rebellious spirit of the late '60s and contrasts it with distilled contemporary echoes of that very energy, filtered through a modern, digital, and dissociated lens.

Der Opium Queen is a Berlin-based musician, DJ, and visual artist running that voodoo inna down-you-will-get-up style. Deeply entrenched in the murky psychotropic inzwischen, they're no stranger to conscious trudges that leave the unprepared behind in the dust. With a lifelong dedication to the crossed wires that keep culture moving, their music seeks to explore depth, provoke curiosity, and break the mold at every turn.
