In the wake of the March 2015 Riverton City fire, and the recently released video of police scolding 3 kids who couldn't be older than age 10, I ask that my community look not at this as another joke or another failing of our governance but really try to reflect on what it is that you're allowing yourself to disregard. The idea that 3 kids know what it means to "bus a gun" is sickening and frightening and the idea that laughter can be found amidst the genuine sadness portrayed here is beyond me. I wrote this 2 years ago now but for anyone feeling like living in Jamaica is akin to being caught between a tourist brochure of the most incredible place and a horror film of unimaginable truths, this is for you.
