Sky Driver, believe it or not, is an artist you are already familiar with: 'Amathyst', known by friends and family as Tyler Raymer out of Houston, TX. While sharing the helm with Dave Zegen and Quentin McFadden (Hiatus) as founders and managers of fld.Study, Raymer releases under two drastically different artist names. Oh we can't fail to mention, he's also half-responsible for last year's explosive entrance of the Drum & Bass act 'Thought & Process' standing as the act's co-producer with another study resident, Jacob Fleming (BRKCHK)- more on that later. Needless to say, Raymer's been a busy fellow. We had a chance to witness the debut releases under Amathyst late last year, and while we wait for the next round of dark, smooth - yet slightly disturbing (in a good way...?) releases, he'll be keeping our summer warm and vibrant with a small collection of consecutive releases. The first of which: Super Hornet.

Sticking to what we see to be a common aviation theme (as he is a pilot), the name of the track derives from the Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet, a twin-engine carrier-based fighter jet. Naming the song after such an iconic aircraft certainly gives first-time listeners a hint of what they're about to hear.

In speaking with Tyler about the track and the fact that it's clearly inspired by the popular Big Room House sound, he told us he "think(s) the Big Room House style certainly has room to grow itself into other genres. As of right now, it seems like so many people are attempting to emulate one another without really 'doing anything' for its progress. I'm no trend-setter, but it made sense to me to at least test out the style, and very quickly I realized that it translates into heavier Trance styles without even trying. All it takes is a bit more creativity from the creator to see past what's already being done."

Big words. But with a genre like Big Room House, it makes sense that the common theme is 'go big'. Without further adiue, Super Hornet is available for free.

Rome is a track that will usher in a new sound for the label entirely. Almost immediately, bright synths and lovely leads hit your ears in a way that clearly indicates that he's certainly not here to smell the flowers. After a heart-pumping intro, it's almost as if he pulls the floor out from under you and reveals the entire expanse of the universe in its place with a spot-on symphonic selection that builds itself into an epic display of compositional skill. From there, things begin to shift, foreshadowing the intense amount of dancing I'm sure will be exhibited when this is played live. After an adrenaline stimulating build, you're rewarded with a lively release of monochromatic bass-driven insanity. With such simple concepts, he's certainly driving into some form of primal instinct that is hard to ignore. The song progresses as expected until the core of that symphonic score returns with the unstoppable support of massive synths and a rhythmic break that forces you into the track even further. After that intense display of musical energy, things fall back into that mono-chord pattern, giving the impression that you just finished an acrobatic maneuver and returned to the ground happier than when you left. From there, the track starts to devolve in a way that will definitely assist DJ's smart enough to play this track without killing the depth of the sound selection. One last pulse of the synth, and it's done... Truly impressive.
The release date of this song is just around the corner! And so is summer. Coincidence?
