Second release on Marco Shuttle’s MSP solo label. This time it’s a 2 tracker reminiscent of his earlier works (“Sing like a bird“ or even “The Vox Attitude”), so a more 4/4 slower approach than his latest releases. The tracks were inspired by deep/tribal 90's progressive house that he heard playing in clubs in the North of Italy (where the producer is from) in those days.
These are very versatile tracks that would easily fit in both techno and (deep psychedelic) house territory.

Prague’s rave culture, coming of age
as a DJ in booths built for a single night
only. The Czech techno renaissance
formed him, then the newly-born club
culture embraced him as one of its main
protagonists.

Industrial ruins, modernist landmarks;
fleika’s trip through the blooming
nightlife imbued his craft with intuition
and technical precision. His sets are a
humble display of his ability to hijack
the mind of a listener. He likes his
dancefloor quiet. No cheers, no chants,
just a stomping crowd, locked in their
own heads.

The Ankali resident digs anything that
kicks, melts or makes one’s mind trip,
but mainly thrives on diving into the
vast depths of hypnotic and psychedelic
techno – as deep as it gets.

The relationship between the visual and auditory creative realms is a close one. Equally as expressive, and open to experimentation, both seem to elevate the other when done tastefully and in combination. It comes to no surprise then, that our premiere for today is from a collaboration between Javier Marimon, and Daniel[i], as JD. A great producer outright, Javier Marimon’s visual contributions range far and wide in our scene, through various label logos, club flyers, album artworks and more, his touch is undeniable, and recognizable. Equally so for his German counterpart on the release, as Daniel[i]'s productions are near and dear to all our hearts.

Continuing a structure of other prior collaborations and releases on Off Tangent, focused around shortened production periods and an emphasis on raw sessions, Javier and Daniel[i]’s time together has coalesced into the seventh release on Javier’s imprint. Titled Segments I and II, the two tracker sits well within the wheelhouse of both artists, shedding light on what is possible from a few meetings and a knack for when something is finished.

Segment II arrives precisely when it means to. Each element unfolds at its own pace, maintaining tension, movement, keeping things interesting however deftly so. Not overt, but subtle. Textures, and off kilter bass lines intermix with muted melodies and cast a shadow over all.

Segments I and II will be released on the 28th of May on Off Tangent Recs.

PREMIERE: JD - Segment II [Off Tangent Recs]

Recorded during the early hours of Sunday morning at Garage Noord at the Omen Wapta Weekender, this live set from Formant Value captures the essence of a weekend that transcended the club experience—where sound, space, and shared energy merged into something truly transformative.

Opening in slow motion, the set unfolds with a deep, psychedelic ambient current—echoes, pulses, and dub textures forming a wide sonic horizon. What follows is a steady, organic rise into tribal techno rhythms and hi-tech structures, maintaining a sense of spaciousness even at its most kinetic.

It’s a set that mirrors the architecture of the night itself: meditative, then elevating, then dissolving again. There are no sharp corners—just flow. Time felt suspended. Movement turned internal. And in the foggy warmth of the dancefloor, listeners were gently guided through a collective dreamspace.

Formant Value is known for his unique & sophisticated sound, that defies easy categorisation whilst nodding in the direction of downtempo, dub and IDM, with elements of D’n’B, trance and techno.
