What was really astonishing to me after the recording was how in the moment my experience was overwhelmingly of hearing the cicadas late at night. In the recording however all I can hear initially is the traffic and then, around the middle it seamlessly transitions into a magical cicada night.

A collaboration between Milena Droumeva and Brady Marks to sonify datasets of #metoo instances on Twitter using the 350K Dataset from data.world. Sounds used include battle cry samples from Soul Calibur and a custom designed texture. This is a non-commercial academic experimental work. The perceivable gaps in the data (quieter moments) actually represent missing data rather than the absence of #metoo entries. Retweets are sonified with reverberation, while reach (number of followers for each user) is sonified with a synth vocal texture in the background. Different files are recorded with data played at different speeds times realtime.
