The Decision

‘Suspended In Silence’ is the second in a series of three completed albums presenting a new, more melodic direction for Hipnotic Earth. Continuing with spacious, evocative and immersive drone-based tonalities, the vast majority of these pieces are one-off improvisations that were recorded during the mornings of mid-2018 in the wine country of California. Here there is a love for not remembering how a song is made. The modus operandi is quite spontaneous, be it the recording process or sound design and mixing of additional colors afterwards. Simply in the moment with no agenda, this music strives for eternal endings and slow rotations around an axis of serenity. During the recording of these tracks birds and other creatures would sometimes meander into the apple orchard where the studio is located. They seemed to be drawn to the music as if they wanted to be on the album and occasionally, their wish was granted!

darren harper's latest work is a joyous collage for all seasons; a delicate record that soothes and refreshes the spirit.

kaleidoscopic chimes and playful bells tumble against each other. twinkling notes drift down in little flurries, then melt away as sunlit chords push aside the clouds.

low, thrumming bokeh echoes bring distant mountaintops intimately close, then curve down into hushed forest floors, winds whispering through leaves overhead. tiny layers of loops and quiet delays, jumbled melodies, sparse crackling branches, and somber swells invite contemplation of these fragile spaces.

each moment is cherished, each song reveals new life: ephemeral, yet enduring. the ice breaks, slowly gliding away as the river shakes off its long slumber.

never obscuring, always revealing; these intertwining paths abound with the hopeful promise that spring is coming.

Darren Harper - A Delicate Dance

Sacred Geometry is full of detail and texture. Its emotional depth comes from a connected place. Following my experiences in yoga and plant medicine I began to see the mathematical elegance of nature. To mirror these geometric forms in sound was the source of my creative process.

The first half of the record captures a performance at the 2018 Le Guess Who? Festival in Utrecht, Holland. Voice, guitar, synthesiser and field recordings were processed into a collage of mediative sounds. In the second half of the record acoustic sounds are fused with harder electronic processes. The track Toroids represents my vision for this record (almost) perfectly.

Closer consideration for the mysteries of consciousness has led the music to border on the spiritual. I hope people will find something to meditate on in each of these songs in the same way I have.

The Golden Ratio

Botánica de Balcón (balcony botanics in Spanish) is the crystallisation of a long shot project by Rafa Ramos Sania and Edu Comelles. Both musicians put together strings, wood and minimal electronics on a new project born from field recordings and sonic textures. The aim is to submerge form that starting premise into sonic territories closer to New Classic, a certain experimental folk and the shredded expressiveness of the double bass, comfortably sitting on eastern tonalities and subtle winks or the Japanese Shakuhachi. Digital and tensed string songs.
