A Man Called Adam release the first of two retrospective ‘mixtape’ albums.

Love Forgotten floats, and it swings. It drifts like sand dunes and it drops like peak time underground. It’s a constant motion built from three decades worth of experiments in sound and song, a left of centre overview of one band’s career as heard in remixes, oddities, outtakes and edits. The result is a perfect flow of ambient electronics, house music and strung out Balearic mixes shot through with musicianship and sounds from all across the globe.

Lovingly compiled by A Man Called Adam - Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones - from a vast and deep back catalogue, Love Forgotten takes pieces from every stage of their band’s journey and fuses them into a truly hypnotic whole. Reworks of classic singles sit next to commissions for the British Museum; collaborations with Idjut Boys, Sensory Productions and Ibizan legend José Padilla melt into gorgeous sunset acoustic sounds. It’s the perfect mixtape for the endless summer that’s playing out in your head.

A Man Called Adam are currently working on Love Forgotten (Oddities and Rarities Part 2) and an abstract documentary, Love Forgotten, to accompany the releases - more news to follow.

AMCA Soundwork Explained

From the 29th March to the 5th of April 2024, Drs Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones undertook a Dyski artist residency in West Cornwall. Situated in woodland close to Lamorna Cove, neolithic caves and standing stones, Sonic Rituals took the participants on a sonorous journey deep into the landscape and its histories. 

As folklore activist and artist Ben Edge says, ‘we are a ritual species’ and for Sonic Rituals, Sally and Steve used a variety of techniques including sound art  lectures and workshops, deep listening exercises and performative rites to guide participants in their creation of sonorous ceremonies designed to invoke our primordial connection with sound.

The mix here, created by Sally, features audio, sound and music developed by the artists and participants during the residency. It includes works by professional theatrical sound designers Peter Rice and Adam McCreedy, musicians and performers Luanna McCallum, Charlotte Bourne, Liv Bartlett and Laura Irvin, nature sound artist Dan Cippico, horticulturalist & DJ Tom Gecim, electronic music maker Toby Edwards, Noods radio broadcaster and student at Paris' Science Po, Maria Schevchenko and Dyski organiser, artist and electronic musician Dion Star.

For more than two and a half decades, Sally Rodgers has helped shape the modern Balearic sound as one half of production duo A Man Called Adam. Their music, which could be described as an amalgamation of acid-jazz, house, disco and pop, has been released via such labels as Big Life, Ritmo Recordings and Emotional Response over the years – not forgetting their own label Other Records Ltd.

When behind the decks, Sally’s DJ sets have been known to include everything from rare Japanese ambient to Italo-disco to post-punk, art-pop, French house and even ’60s and ’70s soundtrack material. Every summer in Ibiza she warms things up for DJ Harvey at his legendary Pikes residency and plays the sunset slot at Hostal La Torre. Back in the UK, she often DJs alongside Gilles Peterson and the Brownswood crew and is a favourite at Brilliant Corners and The Refuge in Manchester.

Sally’s mix for our Off The Record series is an hour-long breezy blend of Balearic goodness, with a few deep house and garage classics thrown in for good measure. Be sure to check out the interview as well. Enjoy!
