"This mix was recorded in July 2021 at an indoor club in Omotesando, when lockdown was briefly loosen and was allowed to party at night little bit (maybe for about 2 weeks). It’s an excerpt of that all nighter set I have played, everyone wearing mask so was not able to see their faces but seemingly people were having a good time."

Priori (@priori-ties) has always explored a wide range of techno from dense and introspective to more joyous, often against the backdrop of technological possibilities. He hails from Canada and has been prolific since first emerging with two full-lengths to his name on his own NAFF label. They pair dubby undercurrents with crystalline melodies and contain the sort of unresolved tensions that keep you locked in for the ride. This weekend he plays Dekmantel Naarm 2024 but first has served up this new mi for us.

Priori says this is the first dance mix he's done in a long time, adding "It's an hour and a half of fresh rhythms and rave sounds that I recorded while on tour in Australia. It features a few tracks I have been playing a lot lately and some forthcoming bits by myself and some friends." In just over 90 minutes he works through a rollercoaster of deep techno rhythms that are firmly focused on the future and flow as fluidly as water.

2023 and 2024 saw Softi aka @jazz_brown popping up everywhere - and well deserved. The quickly emerging London based dj & producer has a knack for bubbling, dubby, smooth & hypnotic groove. As the name suggests, always presented in a soft but effective manner.

A mix reminiscent of the change of seasons, icy breaks shrouded in warm dubs.. moody sounds & summer nostalgia waft through this easy-flowing, chuggy, cosy mix from the @cozi-716789961 boss herself.

It was my first Draaimolen and no one knew it which was great. 
It was also my first encounter with Addit Audio and their sound system installed for the first time in its full glory. I can't recall being brought to tears during one soundcheck.
So there were no news, no algorithms, no expectations to be disappointed. The pit was not announced. It felt like a curious manifestation of something paranormal.
Wonderful sound system, records and sweetest weather.  
Those who found us in the small pit in the middle of the forest most likely didn't know what was going on. 
For the most part of the first 5 hours I figured out that it would be great to play for and with the sound guy, playing right and wrong records and figuring out which one sound good. Research and development mission for Addit Audio.
After 5 hours ISAbella joined for a brief back to back session. Everything can happen in the realm of paranormal. Luckily she stayed and we played together for the next 3 hours until the last song, the one for the deceased. Probably as close as it gets to transcendence.

This one’s packed with slow burns and seriously warm heaters, building in intensity as the set goes on. In a time when BPMs just keep getting faster and faster, it’s a real breath of fresh air to hear something focusing on organic, lush, warm music. @courtneyey, on from midnight to 2 AM, delivered the perfect selection to set the tone for a long night that kicked off in the best possible way. Expect house slow heaters, a sprinkle of disco tunes and jazzy melodies, mixed with ghostly vocals, tribal touches, acid pads, and overall top-notch electronic music that connects straight to your soul.

Kaleidoscopic psychedelia from one of Australia's finest.

While it might feel early to call bets on DJs of the decade, Kia Sydney, best known as Kia, is undoubtedly one of them. The Animalia founder began in Naarm's (Melbourne) underground scene in the mid-2010s, crediting a trip to the influential deep techno Japanese festival, Labyrinth, as the inspiration behind her sound.

Deep techno might not cut it as a descriptor for Sydney's sound, though. Hypnotic ribbons of steely techno mix with atmospherics and nimble grooves, drawing from IDM, dub and tech house, sharing as much with DJ Nobu and Donato Dozzy (try to find the track that overlaps with Dozzy's own RA Podcast) as well as modern practitioners like Priori and Beatrice M.

This distinctly Australian scuttling psychedelia has made Kia one of the most sought-after underground DJs globally. Her brainchild, Animalia, showcases a plurality of sounds and scenes, serving as living proof of the fruitful shift of the 2020s: less serious, perhaps, but with a sense of open-minded worldliness that offers a far more promising vision of what dance music can be and achieve.

Sydney's rare talent lies in forging connections, bringing people, sounds and ideas together with a distinct playfulness. Her RA Podcast showcases this alchemy in abundance, weaving classics like Monolake and Enya with peers such as OK EG, Cousin and Command D.

As she told us in her 2023 Breaking Through profile, "people tell me I have quite a distinctive sound but I can't tell so much because I hear so many different versions of it." RA.973 serves as confirmation that Kia's style is, to say the least, the mark of a generational talent.

When we first heard @mattiaselmansouri we knew there was something special going on. On our sister-label Aniara Recordings we released his debut 𝙏𝙟𝙖 𝙃𝙚𝙟 𝙎𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙢, and last year we published his downright anthem 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚. Mattias is set for a busy, gig-filled summer and will also come to play our own Festival on June 28 in Rotterdam. Get to know Mattias better through the Q&A below, which we will be adding to every mix going forward.

I grew up in this tiny village called Skene, in the southwest of Sweden. I grew up in a very religious and sheltered community, but after finding love and a new purpose in life, I left my ”old life” and relocated to Stockholm around five years ago. I started collecting records quite early on in my teens, as well as making music, but it wasn’t until I relocated to Stockholm that I started playing out and releasing music.

Right now, besides trying to finish some tracks and escaping this creative rut I’m in, I’m currently enrolled in an internship at a small start-up in Stockholm, doing UX design, and I’m set to graduate this summer. I’m kinda super stressed about my future as a designer, given that all jobs out there are only looking for designers with a hundred years of experience, so if any hiring manager reads this: hire me!

Johanna Schneider! Stockholm’s hardest-working woman in showbiz and a promoter of Under Bron/Trädgården, a.k.a. the best club in Stockholm. Johanna is a real cutie who has given me and Ritmo Liminalso many opportunities to do my/our thing there, which is something I don’t take for granted at all.

I was around 15 when an older friend of mine played Model 500’s "Neptune" on his surround system at home. I think that was the moment I got hooked on what I later realized was techno.

I don’t know, really.

What gets me going on the dance floor has less to do with a specific sound or genre and more to do with what a DJ does with them. My favorite DJs are the ones who know how to traverse genres, tempos, and moods—or those who can truly squeeze everything out of the genre they specialize in.
I do, however, sometimes miss hearing really good ‘90s vocal house, proper deep tribal techno, and more "selector"-y things out.
