Cor Ardens 06 "Der Schimmel" Kostas Kefalianos released April 2021

“Der Schimmel” lays out a hermetic and gem-like study in voice, tape and electronics across two side long compositions. Poem-fragments mold and gather into a sonorous mesh. The compositions echo in organic repetition while some integral part of its inferred world refrains from emerging in full. Recorded as the artist was adjusting to a recent move to a new country, and learning a new language. Der Schimmel, exhibits the amplifying fruits of immersion; a stage precariously revealed in it's pull between the familiarity of home and the grafting of new roots.

This new release by Continuous Tone is a stereo mix of a live performance presented at Café OTO earlier this year. Kate Carr and Iain Chamber invited Tom to respond to their theme of “Rubbish Music” in which they take discarded objects as source material for live improvisations. The subsequent composition employs a pair of modified kitchen pedal bins as musical instruments; close mic’d, with the lids opening and closing periodically to modulate the sounds passing through and ‘prepared’ with bamboo sticks placed on the speaker cones inside so that low frequencies vibrate the metal lids.

Pour cette seconde murmuration, nous partons sur la piste des oiseaux.
Pourquoi les oiseaux ? “Parce que terriblement concernés par l’érosion de la biodiversité ; parce que source de réflexion inépuisable (...) ; parce qu’intégrés à tous les aspects d’une mondialisation de l’information et des pratiques — surveillance, suivi, abattage, soin, réintroduction, protection. [...] Parce qu’il est nécessaire de penser avec les oiseaux, depuis leurs territoires et ceux/celles qui les côtoient, en un temps où habitats et espèces disparaissent” souligne Roméo Bondon dans son texte Penser depuis l’oiseau.
Traversée entre field-recording, pièces électroacoustiques et mélodies électroniques, cette murmuration nous convie à écouter les mondes des oiseaux, premiers chanteurs dont l’humain aurait imité les mélodies pour constituer le langage.

Don’t stop talking about Palestine.

As we near the end of 2023, we feel exhaustion from wars, exiles, ecological catastrophes, censorships, unstable economic situations we find ourselves and our dissolving bodies. In all that the only thing that keeps us hopers is seeing you guys act, listening to all the strong supportive voices, talking about things that can be dangerous to speak up about, as we see numerous examples of censorship for standing up for your beliefs.

This compilation brings together 19 musicians to continue the conversation about Palestine, calling for a ceasefire and an end to the occupation, and donating their tracks to support the people in Gaza.

All donations raised from this compilation will be sent to Medical Aids for Palestine (MAP), an organization prioritizing the health of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. They provide immediate medical aid to those in need and work to develop local capacity and skills for the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system.

Let's not allow the darkness to consume us. Let's continue to raise our voices, support each other, and take action.

Yarn sewn fabric played on prepared turntable and stylus.

Tistre is the first outcome of an experimentation with textile supports, made by Andrea Borghi in 2018, during a residency at Lottozero textile laboratories in Prato. Fabrics and yarns are the materials with which he creates discs the shape and size of a Lp. He plays them with a prepared turntable, in order to exploit the reliefs of the weft and the warp as a surface from which to produce the sound with the use of special self-built styli and electronic treatments.

Tistre follows the path taken by the artist with Discomateria, focused on experimentation with different materials such as glass, resin, metal or marble, which become the source for the production of sounds.

Amelie Nilles is a French composer and spatial audio expert from Paris, drawing inspiration from her background in singing and drumming on the jazz music scenes. Explorer of experimental realms, she offers an aesthetic approach to spatialisation in her music. Under the guidance of composer Régis Renouard-Larivière, she honed her skills in electroacoustic composition, while she was simultaneously pursuing her Master's degree at Paris 8 University, delving into research exploring the spatial dimension of music. Constantly in the process of creating sound environments, she crafts captivating soundscapes weaving together her voice, field recordings, electronic textures, and organic rhythms. In November 2021, she unveiled her debut EP, 'A croqué le fruit étrange', on Planisphère label, introducing listeners to her deeply personal and experimental universe, both dark and pop. Since then, she has performed live at various venues across Austria, France, Germany, and Greece, has designed multichannel sound installations, collaborating with diverse artists along the way. Among the themes dear to her, she challenges the intrusion of technology in every aspect of our lives without ever questioning it. While we tend to forget that humans are living beings among others, she advocates for a re-humanization of society, in opposition to trans-humanism.
