From 1980. American Noise was still another best kept secret Cleveland band that delivered a notable debut album - but remained undiscovered beyond of Greater Cleveland region by reasons well beyond their control. Fronted by brothers Craig and Bruce Balzer and a who’s who of prominent local musicians, American Noise was signed by Planet Records, a vanity label owned by famed producer Richard Perry, (Carly Simon, Nilsson, Ringo Starr, Fanny, Diana Ross, Barbara Streisand, among others). Regrettably, Perry’s only successful Planet label album was by the Pointer Sisters, and it was their last charting LP.  Regardless of the album being recognized as a power pop masterpiece, the band, like many others in the region, did not have the essential management contacts to broaden its base.  The Planet label was also underfunded and even with Elektra Records’ WEA distribution, the album did not receive sufficient national promotion and marketing.  But in Greater Cleveland, American Noise were one of the top-selling, top drawing and best live bands.

Ambleside
Cleveland, 1971-4

Ambleside was formed from the demise of December's Children, with brothers and former DC members Craig Balzer, Bruce Balzer, and Bill Petti joining drummer Mike Amato. Early gigs had them billed as 'formerly December's Children', a bit of a stretch. Ambleside hopped right on the rock club circuit and played often at places like the Utopia, Agora, etc. The band's forte was guitar rock songs like the Allman Brothers, Neil Young, and the like. In 1974 the band, although still very popular, disbanded when the Balzer brothers joined Circus.

LIVE CLEVELAND STATE 1981 PT 2

This is a new version of Hollywood Blvd, remixed 12-14-24 George Sipl 

        In order to do this, I had to extract Craig’s voice using AI.  It did a real nice job.  I wanted the string parts to resemble the charts I did on the original record.  Funny, since I no longer had the music, I had to figure out what I wrote:-)  I wanted the verses to be intimate, so I stuck with the string quartet, which is what we used on the original.  I wanted the solo to be huge, so I used orchestra strings and even added a choir.  I wanted to pay respects to Bruce’s guitar solo and Tommy’s drums, so I inserted the original recording.  I doubled Bruce’s solo with the strings and even added some voices to increase the dynamics.  At the end, I dumped out of the original, and brought back the quartet.  Oh, and as Gerry Moran had his own style of piano playing, I decided to create an acoustic guitar part for the verses.

Recorded in 1973, this unreleased version of Dusty Springfield's "I only want to be with you" was found in my basement on an acetate.   Finally-- we have the ability to share with Circus fans after a long wait!  Enjoy.
