This week on Topshelf we’re blessed to have with us Paris based DJ / Producer, Sapphist Eye.


With their Debut EP releasing in 2023 alongside fellow French artist Naominitel, Sapphist Eye’s work is always evolving, blending elements of ambient house as seen on her debut release ‘Corridors’ with the beautifully dark italo that continues to blossom across the channel, using loose influences from 80’s pop and early techno to create a strong blueprint to build from. 

Sapphist Eye’s 2024 has been a break through year with the release of their moody, pulsing debut the ‘Another Side’, an EP which features a collection of dark disco tracks that all continue to build as the record progresses, with the artist subtly using their fine talent of soundscaping to provide an ever growing backdrop for the industrial percussion and synths on top.  
‘Seedy Streets’ is a harmonious masterpiece and a great example of two genres working cohesively together whilst ‘Nothing’ creates chaos in unison, utilising haunting, plucky synths to create a beautifully eery dance track. 

Performing incredibly creative Dj sets live from both a visual and auditory perspective, Sapphist Eye’s work as a whole with videos, artwork and music is a great triumph, showing a clear creative vision for someone still at the very beginning of their career and we are sure that with their infectious brand of electronic music that their popularity and appreciation will continue to grow.

We are so excited to have Sapphist Eye on Topshelf and can’t wait to see what comes next for the budding artist. So here is Topshelf 0123, we hope you enjoy.

Amertume ( Minitel )

Born in 1978, he’s been into music since the age of 4. With 12 years of classical conservatory music behind him (playing Ondes Martenot, the ancestor of the synths), he started to listen to electronic music in the early 90’s, and fell in love with Techno and psychedelic trance 
He started mixing in 2000 on vinyl then progressed to cd’s. He joined Analogic Team, a French association promoting trance in France, and Coda Magazine, a French electronic music mag, where he was in charge of the trance section (reviews, news, and interviews…)
He loves to play Italo Disco, Early Trance, Indie Dance and some rare edits of the 80's and 90's  sets under the name  Amertume  and MINITEL (co creator of the label & media)
his influences comes from  labels such Running Back, Bordello a Parigi, , Correspondant,  Roam, Slow Motion, Hivern Discs, Permanent Vacation ... among others

He has played In paris in clubs such as Glazart, Loco, Batofar, Cabaret Sauvage,OPA, Flèche d'Or, Plaza,Madeleine, Trabendo, Gibus, Divan du Monde Concorde Atlantique, Nuba, wanderlust, café de la presse, 824H, Pardon , Point Ephemere ....) in the countryside of France, and in foreign cities like London, Prague,Budapest, Frankfurt,Amsterdam,Ljubljana … and in festivals in Italy(Sonica ), Hungary(Ozora Festival ),France(Arcadia )…. 

He was also a psytrance Dj for more than 12 years representing the International Label Neurobiotic Records
He has collaborated on 4 tracks with Silicon Sound: 
“Departure”, released in July 2005 on the “Sonica “compilation from Neurobiotic Records and licensed in October 2005 to Yellow Sunshine Explosion label.
“Hyperion” released in December 2008 on the Silicon Sound compilation ("Synthetic Chronicles") for Neurobiotic Records and licensed on Yellow Sunshine explosion and Ministry of Sound. 
"Unsophisticated" released on Neurobiotic Records compilation "Tour de Trance"(2011)
"Gymnopédie" released in 2011 on the Re:shape Ep for Neurobiotic Records
