It has sad tones at the beginning and end but some happier bits in the middle, as I imagined Vincent sitting outside in the sun with his paints and easel.
This piece meanders a fair bit, taking new turns before developing each new thought, perhaps like a bipolar state of mind in the artist, but if you listen carefully there's a theme that repeats throughout the work. In Van Gogh-coda, the sequel to this piece, the score is well structured and "makes sense", perhaps reflecting Vincent's state of mind when he is well.

"She Loves February" embodies the intense balance between openness and the unsaid.

The soundtrack is part of a bigger project titled "Johann", a Compilation released under NOOX and dedicated to Piano Day 2025. Whilst this collective effort pays homage to a musical instrument that is more or less our society's paradigm of human expression through sound since the 19th Century, we mustn't forget who basically set the rules for keyboard musical writing, changing the whole game forever. So, happy Piano Day, but also happy "Johann".

From a bygone Nice
To the tropical world
From a stopover on a boat
Near a free radio station
Back from a book
Immaculate contraception
By way of the crazies
Who talk to us so much

About their last voyage
To finally throw us
Their pseudo-metaphors
Shouting nonsense
From the top of the schooners

De noche en el puerto

El viento imita con pesar
la queja de un bebé al llorar
y choca contra el malecón.

El faro ilustra con su luz
a un marinero ante una cruz
que de rodillas ora con fervor.

Estribillo

Las olas van susurrando
sonidos que van narrando
un cruel enigma del reino abisal.

La arena lo va escuchando
 y con cuidado guardando
pues entiende que es confidencial.

La luna dejar de mirar
la imagen que le ofrece el mar
pues no se llega a reconocer.

La calma acaba por llenar
el alma de una extraña paz
y la razón se deja mecer.

The wind sadly imitates
the lament of a crying baby
and crashes against the seawall.

The lighthouse illuminates with its light
a sailor before a cross
who kneels and prays fervently.
