The Off The Record mix series kicks off its year with a bonafide legend in the game. Having close ties to artists like Flying Lotus, Ras-G & more Kutmah has blurred the lines between beats, hip-hop, new wave and Lo-fi. Having flipped the script on sampling and making his own sound from a little bit of column A and a little of column B, the DJ (whose mixing skills are nearly unparalleled), has always found himself indistinguishable in terms of genre. This has gathered him a very firm fanbase who never know what to expect from a Kutmah set. That being said we did not know what to expect either, and in this excitement received an hour of pure raw distorted guitars, ambient waves and lo-fi beats. We had a brief chat with the man himself about the mix and what he has cooking in the pipeline.

Gerard Hanson, better known by his stage monikers Convextion or E.R.P. (Event Related Potential), is renowned for his deep, atmospheric techno and electro productions. Coming from Dallas, Texas, Convextion has become household name known for his unique Detroit and minimalistic approach to productions. This rare and obscure recording made in Eindhoven, Netherlands showcases why Convextion is undoubtedly one of the most authentic electro artists out there. Chris Douglas – aka OST, Dalglish, Aclds, Rook, Seaes, Amhain.. one of the most enigmatic and emotionally arresting producer/composers working today, Brought up in San Francisco, Douglas came of age during the early days of rave, organising underground parties that helped shape the Bay Area’s burgeoning electronic music scene. In ’92 he moved to Detroit, where he made formative musical and ethical connections with Mike Banks and James Stinson.  Since relocating to Berlin in 2003, Douglas has immersed himself in his work, creating and releasing a massive body of uncompromising, reality-bending tracks that collapse the lines between rhythm and abstraction, pushing listeners into strange and often beautiful new territories... This mix celebrates Douglas as a vital presence, exploring the possibilities of electronic music as a deeply personal & transformative force.

SDEM: aka tom knapp – Born in Hull, north east England,, a painter turned Dj / Producer, working in electronic audio since the late 90s. As well as playing live and making releases for SKAM, Seagrave, Opal Tapes, CPU etc, Tom worked for meds and icasea, labels that  both released work by Chris. This mix is a personal listening selection, tracing deep cuts across a range of zones and aliases…
