Bombs Over Breakfast

Back in 2010, Berlin-based super-producer Boys Noize aka Alex Ridha teamed up with Canadian musical genius Chilly Gonzales to produce his album, Ivory Tower. Chilly jumped on a few of his tracks in return, and they both had so much fun that they simply never stopped collaborating. Fast-forward to today and the duo’s jam sessions and lack of agenda have forced each other out of their musical comfort zones and into each other’s worlds. The result? A truly brilliant project, a stunning debut album (complete with feature from Chance The Rapper) and the ultimate musical bromance.

With the aim of creating something bigger than the sum of its parts, they challenged themselves to break away from their usual style and adopted a new name. “Calling it @Octave-Minds lets people know that we’re a new universe now,” explains Chilly. With that in mind, we are very pleased to present the very first interview with Octave Minds, along with the premiere of Rave Face, the bonus track from their brilliant eponymous album released today via @BoysnoizeRecords.

Having passed through the BR finishing school with flying colours (dude even got a rousing ovation as a graduation gift), our Parisian alumnus Lucien is honing in on Ventura full time. This here giveaway precursors a full EP from the man; downtempo, live instrumentation with a serious coup of an engineer sat behind the mixing desk (that we're being told to keep tight-lipped for the minute; sorry about that).

"Spiralling Palm Tree" sounds nothing like it though. Cutesy piano riffs spill over one another, unaware of the juddering wallop beneath, while a strange Dreijer-esque hook rattles around, winching its way to the front. It's the happy mark of an overactive mind – ditto the vaporwave-y art.
