Viridian @ Saturnalia 2020: The Great Conjunction 20/12/20

Inspired by an autumn spent across Oxford, London, and the north west of England, Jove's inaugural podcast is an ode to an intense and formative year. Settle in for a mounting celebration of 2017 and our birth as a collective.

Evoking the theme of emergence, this podcast channels some of the form of Amor Fati's debut in June at the Cellar, Oxford - recalling its unique ambience and peak time firepower. That same aesthetic energy is the inspiration for the mix.

001 opens with a shimmering chrysalis of melancholy, before giving way to rising revelatory action. The tempo shifts from the experimental and transcendent opening, to cascading rhythms, and a syncopated pile up of beats to close. It is thus structured according to movements, evoking the natural pattern of life in emergent, spiralling growth.

Avsluta delivers 004 with billowing dubs of ephemeral lustre. The mix floats across humid and delicate artifices, fluttering like mist over concrete fields, coating us in the dew of winter dawn. 

004 completes our first movement with a hospitable sense of subtle breeze and rhythmic chimes, affirming the world on wisps of sacred airs. It carries wistful and innocent, elemental echoes of a world that hauntingly hangs around us, before us, and beyond...

In our first live piece, Draze presents the vestigial murmur of cosmic expansions intoned in deep time. 005 combines subtle rhythmic shears in recurring cycle with heat death synths emerging over absolute zero. Through the enveloping yawn of meditative expansion, we are submerged in thought and matter paused at the ends of time… or its beginnings.

These undulating drones scurry down entropic paths, outward from density and into cooling vacuum. Along the way glacial celestial echoes shudder, revealing miasmic background radiation veiled by distant, stellar tectonics. 

Patience and neu(t)ral irrigation, spectral strings and quantum loops, plot traces of primordial mass preceding form and function. As abyssal skies whisper, their flickering grid arrayed from synthesis via deepest mindscapes to match widest backdrops.

The tides are burning and the monoliths humming... closing a decade as the chronic ticking of the doomsday clock chimes, 006 transduces Saturnine menace; the scythe’s glint coruscates over our spinal dimensions, as tipping points encroach.

 Io Saturnalia! Illuminare furnishes your descent with sinister mirrors to invert all you hold dear... music for turning the abyss into a tunnel, and flaying minds for ascension. What else for jaded generations burned out on their forebears' altars?

006 superimposes an adorcism and exorcism of apocalyptic apprehensions, tracking the inversion of dying icons as they rumble through drones of queasy adumbrations, rhythmic tremulations, and sickening emanations from the computronium hypercuboid.
