freq444 - Stuck In A Red Zone (Synkro Remix) [PREVIEW]

Lost Flight, freq444's debut EP on Ampere Records, is an envisioning of the period it was created: amidst the first lockdown of 2020. With deep basslines, floating ambient synths and etheric breaks, it not only acts as an introduction to freq444's sounds but also as a look into the confusing and dystopian time it was created in. 

A Permanent State of Boredom sets the tone by opening the EP with swelling soundscapes and broken breaks, to end with an ethereal arpeggiated synth. Title track Lost Flight showcases freq444's ability to combine crisp percussion and breaks with atmospheric, elegant synth lines, while Stuck In A Red Zone embodies the desire for freedom by putting alternating analog riffs with heavy kick drums on display.

Parisian-born aficionado of art, jazz, wine and the occasional fishing trip in Brittany, Cesar Merveille has an equally refined taste in music. For this set, recorded live during the first Cadenza/Aether showcase in Ampere, he had a definite focus on making the dance floor move. Mixing between house and minimal by sweeping from one percussive shuffle to another, this baseline driven story inspired by colourful latin rhythms, loopy vocals and warm synths is the perfect introduction to Cesar's take on contemporary dance music.

Ampere Archives 001 - Cesar Merveille

The second episode of Ampere Archives comes from the skilled hands of Joe "Synkro" Mcbride, the ginger glass wearing producer from Manchester. Since he found a new home at Apollo, sub-label of the iconic Belgian R&S Records, it was no surprise to find him on the bill of the R&S 'In Order To Dance' Weekender in December last year. Through atmospheric melodies and heady bass lines he created an easy but moody listening, illustrating influences from a wide spectrum of bass culture and electronica by decorating his story with inventive and touching soundscapes.  The overwhelming layers of lugubrious synths flowing over edgy beats and miniature voices like waves, leave you behind a little woozy. Perfect for some afternoon relaxing or to wind down an endless afterparty.

Antwerp based vinyl lover Hemer is a young DJ with a passion for dark, yet groovy techno. Started out in 2014, she quickly caught the eye of Sound Architecture’s founder Joachim, who did not hesitate to add her to his roster. Driven by pounding basslines, Hemer takes you on a journey through intriguing sounds and rhythms, without ever losing sight of her own style.

This particular set was recorded during her performance at the first anniversary of MØRSK, featuring Answer Code Request.

Long-time contributor to the bustling Antwerp music scene as the co-organiser of Feiern and as part of the Sunday Matinee collective (known to all for kick-starting a vibrant open air scene in the city), Laurens is a name that will definitely ring a bell for any Belgium nightlife regular. Responsible for bringing names such as Move D, Mike Huckaby and Jus-Ed to Antwerp and with a carefully curated sound of his own, Laurens’ reputation is hard-earned. Now having played at some of Belgium’s most forward-thinking clubs & parties and with a couple international gigs under his belt, Laurens’ career as a DJ and organiser is showing no signs of slowing down.

This set was recorded in his natural habitat during the previous resident night on 17.10.15.

After moving to Europe in the early 90’s as a child, Calvache’s attention was soon grabbed by hip hop and electronic music in general. He carved out his own personal taste, ranging from contemporary Brazilian Jazz to rare disco and Eddy Wally. 
Not long after, Calvache’s infectious selections and mixing skills allowed him to take many dancefloors on a trip to the deeper side with his rhythmic percussive style. In his own words: “If it has a rhythm, I respect it’.” With his name, also his network grew and it wasn’t long before he became part of Antwerp’s Sunday Matinee crew, which eventually also led to a residency in Antwerp’s newest underground venue: Ampere.
