Xavier - Closing set at FOLD x FastForward [01/05/22]

Imagine growing up near Berlin, getting into dance music, going to Berghain for the first time and getting your mind blown by techno. Then, ten years later, you become a resident DJ at the fabled club. Not many people—any people?—can claim this story, but for Fadi Mohem, what would be so many DJs' dreams became a reality. After getting his 2017 debut 12-inch Reckless in the hands of all the right people in Berlin, Mohem established a bold, bouncy techno sound with releases on Modeselektor's Seilscheibenpfeiler, Ben Klock's Klockworks and FJAAK's SPANDAU20, pretty much the cream of the crop of modern techno.

Now, this year, he's becoming one of Berghain's newest residents, alongside other exciting names like Sedef Adasï and Naty Seres (and Lakuti upstairs at Panorama Bar). As heard on his recent collaborative with Ben Klock, Mohem has modern techno down to a science, thanks to a combination of reverence for the old-school and clever rhythmic touches, like the irresistible snare pattern on "Prefix." His RA Podcast sounds like what you might expect from a new generation of Berghain resident: aerodynamic, heavy and, honestly a little midtempo compared to a lot of other young techno DJs. It's the sound the club has made world-famous, with cuts from Reeko, Heiko Laux and Truncate, plus some special moments from aya, DJ Deeon and Petar Dundov. It takes a certain kind of DJ to get to this hallowed place, and Fadi Mohem deserves it.

As their first ever ‘All Night’ set beckons ever closer we can now bring you this live recording in its entirety.

Whether it was her debut in these halls five years ago, or perhaps her spellbinding @tech-couture closing, or something more recent such as her MORD or Mala Junta appearances, all will have fallen under her enchantments at some point. This is Anabel’s world, and we’re just living in it. 

Last month, Anabel added one more to that list, bringing to a close our UNFOLD Bank Holiday Edition.

This all plays out on this week's Glitch podcast as the Berlin-based Ghanaian-American DJ rips through with her signature blend of techno, fused with a punk edge. It's the fifth podcast of our charity series to raise money for „Wave of Hope for the Future” - an initiative founded by refugees for refugees in the camps at the borders of Europe.
They promote education in the camps by building schools, organizing educational material and supporting teachers. Art and languages form the basis of the education that is made available.

She developed a big impact on what the electronic music scene of Copenhagen represented the last few years. Besides numerous performances at influential clubs and festivals in the last years, she started the “mixed media channel” Amniote Editions alongside Rose Marie Johansen in 2019. It includes diverse releases like music, posters, clothing and video from Copenhagen scene and beyond. In her intoxicating mix for Wave of Hope she linkes fresh and modern Techno with progressive elements and Manu Chao.

Influenced by labels such as PRTL WRX, Frenzy Recordings and SK_eleven, Sam seeks to create dark soundscapes of mystery and excitement which immerse the body. Sam’s sound features refined hypnotic elements and relentless intensity seeking to catalyse the ritualistic mode of worship in rhythm and repetition. Imagine Pazuzu in musical form.

Amphia (She/They) is a Spanish multidisciplinary artist and DJ based between London and Berlin. A key figure in London’s underground scene and gaining recognition across Europe, they have cultivated a dedicated following through their distinctive sound and artistic vision.

Their sound blends hypnotic techno, tribal rhythms, futuristic soundscapes, and emotive textures, moving between techno and trance. Amphia has brought their energy to renowned venues and platforms, including Fold, Radion Amsterdam, Human Razzmatazz, and Boiler Room and they recently secured a residency at M.A.S. Limited.
