Amphior (aka. Mathias Hammerstrøm), makes his return with a new handful of atmospheric and emotive tracks on his latest 3-track EP ‘Mirror Chamber’. Following up from the stylistic vein of 2019s’ ‘We Used to Dance’ Mathias continues to venture into the nostalgic and dreamful world of old-school analog synthesizers, switching out slow-paced and droney soundscapes with tireless and driving arpeggio magic. Having been produced during the long and uncertain hiatus of the pandemic of 2020, Mirror Chamber is a longing ascendance into sky-high ‘80s retro bliss searching for mental peace and comfort.

Premiere: Amphior - Another Presence

Amphior (@amphior) follows up his appearance on Mantis Radio 296 (2019) w/ an exclusive session mix of ambient and downtempo tracks. Entitled 'Catharsis' it marks his new album 'Another Presence' that dropped last month on Italian label Glacial Movements. Once again the Danish producer illuminates through sound. 

'Another Presence' was recorded during the long and isolated time many of us experienced during lockdowns in 2020. Mathias Hammerstrøm found himself going through as he puts it, a bit of a personal hell. His mix is compiled with this in mind, "attempting to blend together the atmosphere of his album w/ similar inward vibrations, sometimes more angsty, sometimes fading into empty space."

Amphior is the moniker behind Danish electronic and ambient producer Mathias Hammerstrøm, who creates immersive soundscapes fluctuating between raw melancholy and ethereal bliss. Obsessed with the authentic warmth of tape machines, and vintage amplifiers, his atmospheric synthesizers, enigmatic voices, and lo-fi textures are often fused together in a nostalgic haze of hauntingly beautiful sound. Mathias’ music often paints a picture of disquiet rumination with his spellbinding sounds echoing faintly as if from the oceanic depths of the subconsciousness - though never as to pull down the listener, but to offer cathartic release. 

Amphior debuted in March 2014 on Estonia-based Loodma Recordings with his “Begone EP”, venturing deep into the territory of “Future Garage” with skipping 2-step-rhythms, rumbling basses, pitched vocals, and the sounds of rain from the city. He re-emerged in a similar stylistic vein in 2016 with his “Unlocked EP” and followed up a year later with his debut album “Shadowland”; a collection of IDM-inspired and claustrophobically noisy tracks, released on the Dutch Shipwrec. Mathias has explored the fields of ambient music ever since. In 2019 he released his phantasmagorical analog synthwork “We Used to Dance” which included a remix from the prolific Sangam. In 2022 Amphiors’ third full-length album, the somberly meditative and spiritually pulsating “Another Presence” was released on the Italian Glacial Movements, and mastered by Slowdives' Simon Scott.
