Premiere: Amphior - Another Presence

Amphior (@amphior) follows up his appearance on Mantis Radio 296 (2019) w/ an exclusive session mix of ambient and downtempo tracks. Entitled 'Catharsis' it marks his new album 'Another Presence' that dropped last month on Italian label Glacial Movements. Once again the Danish producer illuminates through sound. 

'Another Presence' was recorded during the long and isolated time many of us experienced during lockdowns in 2020. Mathias Hammerstrøm found himself going through as he puts it, a bit of a personal hell. His mix is compiled with this in mind, "attempting to blend together the atmosphere of his album w/ similar inward vibrations, sometimes more angsty, sometimes fading into empty space."

Rome-based record label Glacial Movements prepare to unveil the sophomore album from Danish electronic musician Mathias Hammerstrøm, better known as Amphior...‘Under The Stars’ unspools like an icy reverie - layer upon layer of stretched-out synth vapour, subaquatic bass and distorted analog hauntings. As if mapping out the constellations of a lost psyche, the track unearths deep-seated anxieties beneath blood-red skies, pulling the audience into a twilight realm where solitude and the infinite collide.

Amphior is the creative alias of Danish producer Mathias Hammerstrøm, who crafts introspective soundscapes where melancholy and dreamlike euphoria intertwine. His music is shaped by the warmth of tape machines, vintage amplifiers, and the beauty of imperfection. With atmospheric instruments, haunting vocals, and lo-fi textures, he evokes nostalgia, decay, and the fleeting nature of memory.

He first introduced his music in 2014 with the Begone EP, released on Estonian label Loodma Recordings. This debut explored "Future Garage," blending skittering 2-step rhythms, rumbling basslines, distorted vocals, and the sound of rain-soaked cityscapes. In 2016, he followed up with the Unlocked EP before unveiling his first full-length album, Shadowland, in 2017 on Dutch label Shipwrec—an IDM-inspired, intricately layered collection. Transitioning into ambient music, Mathias released We Used to Dance in 2019, an analog synth odyssey featuring a remix by the prolific Sangam. His most recent album, Another Presence (2022), is an emotional, meditative, and spiritually pulsating work released on Italy’s Glacial Movements and mastered by Simon Scott of Slowdive.

His fourth album, Disappearing (2025), continues this exploration of memory and impermanence, reflecting on the fragile line between presence and absence.
