This is a set that I played at a private birthday party for Ani and Dana recently!  A collection of fun funky tunes that Ive been collecting.

Shine Up the Darkness

This set was played in the most magical of settings - a secret location in a redwood grove in Big Sur. What more, this was a special dance party to celebrate two of my dear friends who had just been married the day before.  The entire thing was very improvised, adding that feeling of serendipity and amazement that we were even pulling it off. It is out of this epic cauldron of elements that this beautiful set emerged. 

Huge thanks to Jason and Lizzy for bringing everyone together, and to all the many hands that helped us carry all the sound gear and various things needed to throw this amazing party.

As we transition through the seasons, we also transition through our lives.  These changes allow for deep reflection and introspection.  Many will try and suppress the change or pretend it is not there.  Sink into it and become the butterfly on the other side of your cocoon.

This set is from opening up for Catching Flies in Durango, CO on September 28th 2022.  What a fun night of high vibin music!

Transitions

"Fever" was originally written in 1956 by Eddie Cooley and Otis Blackwell, who used the pseudonym John Davenport.

It has been covered by numerous artists, most notably by Peggy Lee, in 1958 Lee's version contained rewritten lyrics different from the original and an altered music arrangement - our version does too - it was produced together with my sister and recorded in December of 2022.

Other notable cover versions of "Fever" include those by Elvis Presley, Boney M., Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Michael Bublé, The McCoys, La Lupe and Beyoncé.

Amritaji (Amrit Dhillon) has been spinning psychedelic worldbeat and bass music since 2007. Coming from her roots in psytrance, she has spent over a decade and a half playing at electronic music events, festivals and Ecstatic Dances around the world. Her unique style of weaving the traditional music of Eastern and indigenous cultures with electronic bass and dance music started with her love for sonic-induced states of trance after practicing traditional Sanskrit Kirtan when she was in high school. A lifelong musician, Amritaji is passionate about blending traditional and modern music, giving her audiences a distinct sonic experience of deep bass lines, Eastern melodies and uplifting grooves. Her passion is for creating dance journeys to offer a sonic space for healing, free and authentic expression, and fun! She across the US and internationally. She is relocating to the UK in the autumn of 2025 to pursue her Masters of Music in Ethnomusicology at SOAS, University of London.

Amritaji founded Ecstatic Dance Milwaukee in 2016. Between 2018-2025, she was a resident DJ and DJ trainer at Ecstatic Dance Salt Lake City. She is also a DJ trainer with Dance The Medicine. Amritaji has had mixes featured on Shanti Planti and Street Ritual Records.

Amritaji has performed on lineups with artists such as Desert Dwellers, Kalya Scintilla, Govinda, Kaminanda, Whitebear, Random Rab, SaQi, AtYya, An-Ten-Nae, WHYT RBBT Dimond Saints, and the Jumpsuit Records family.
