This is a pretty raw recording from a demo session I did when I was in high school. It's just vocal accompanied by electronic thambura. 

The song is in praise of Lord Vinayaka (Ganesh), known as the remover of obstacles in Hindu traditions. The song is composed by Purandaradasa and is in ragam Hameer Kalyani set to Misra Chapu tala.

Something I recorded at home on a Saturday night with the help of a karaoke track because I was totally obsessed with Rihanna's "Where have you been," and bored. 

So instead of listening to financial accounting lectures, I sang, 

I'm aware the levels are all off and uneven and the sound quality is shitty ( although it sounds better with headphones). But I had a lot of fun with it anyway :-)

Amritha is a member of the dance-pop group, Kuruvintam, along with Eric Vincent Thomas (See www.Kuruvintam.com).

She was classically trained in Indian dance and music by her mother. 

Growing up, she she was influenced by pop stars Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Beyonce, and others, and she would often try to mimic their styles. Though she didn't perform these songs in public, she once competed in her high school's "idol" competition and placed second singing Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful."

Amritha now lives in Atlanta, Ga.
