[Era]의 시간은 20분으로 흐른다. 네 곡의 수록곡을 모두 이어 붙인 영상은 시대의 한 구간을 관통하는 모양새다.
 
한 여성이 있다. 신체를 뒤덮은 막이 질기게 피부에 들러붙는다. 우리에게도 한 겹 있다. 원하지 않지만 없어서는 안 되는. 여분의 외피는 가끔 속이기 좋지만 대체로 거추장스럽다. 누구도 완벽한 자신의 상태를 주장하기 어렵다. 평정을 찾으려고 분주하다. “돌아오지 않는 강”에서 들려오는 마릴린 먼로의 음성은 사람에게는 양가적인 면이 있다고 외친다. 껍데기를 차츰차츰 떼어내지만 전부 벗어버리지는 못한 인물은 “아가미”의 습한 사운드와 함께 기괴한 형태로 대체된다. 기괴함은 뭘까? 명확하게 드러내지 않는 것, 구분 지을 수 없는 것, 정의 내릴 수 없는 것. amu는 인간을 닮았지만 무엇을 지칭하지 않는 것을 분신처럼 안는다. 어루만지고 보듬고 다시 밀어낸다. 그리고 비늘 같은 껍질을 떼어내 무늬처럼 덧입는다. “어두운 물은 검게”에 이르러는 좁고 익숙한 공간에 갇혀 증기처럼 감싸는 불안과 공포와 싸운다. 옥죄던 외피는 어느새 어두운 물을 방어한다. 손을 잡고 화해를 나눈다. 내가 나를 사랑하고 혼내고 거둔다. “섬”에 당도해 상처입고 허물어진 폐허를 발 밑에 두고 숨을 돌린다. 더 이상 트랙은 없지만 이 노래는 끝나지 않는다. 아마 영원히 반복될 수도 있다.
 
[Era]는 시대를 살아가는 한 사람의 이야기를 뚝 떼어 놓았다. 나아가 누구의 이야기가 되기도 한다. 고통과 불안을 수반하는 살아내는 시간을 친절하게 설명하지 않는다. 고난을 극복하고 행복으로 종결되는 이야기가 얼마나 허황된 지 우리는 아주 잘 알고 있다. 다만, 지지 않는다는 것, 살아가고 살아낼 것이라는 굳건한 움직임을 보여준다. amu의 [Era]는 지금 어떤 구간에 서 있는지 어떤 모습인지 자신을 확인하게 하는 힘을 가졌다.

Tracks for anyone and everyone.
 
[Era] spans twenty minutes. The video imagines four tracks as water, which punctuates through parts of an era to exist in multiple times and spaces.
 
There is a woman. A suffocating film covers her skin. It's a membrane that covers everyone. It’s something no one wants but everyone needs. Some possess a thicker skin while some possess multiple layers. While this may aid in their deception, they are bondaged by its additional weight. No one is able to discern their true self among their many layers and everyone is occupied in their attempts to find peace. Marilyn Monroe's voice on ‘River of No Return’ reminds us that ambivalence exists in all people. ‘Agami’ describes a person who molts in perpetuum, stuck in a loop of perpetual shedding, leaving her in a state of amorphousness. amu hugs the amorphous being, which exists in obscurity, before pushing it away. She tries to assist the being by helping her molt but as each layer is removed, a scar like pattern is left behind. ‘Black Water’ is the embodiment of the terrifying emotions and trauma associated with drowning. The shell which the being tried to shed so desperately now protects her from the tenebrous water. amu and the woman hold hands in an act of reconciliation. I love, despise, and embrace myself. Finally, at ‘Seom’, the being finds peace above her wounded and crumbled past. There are no more tracks left in the background but the final song does not end, it too loops in perpetuum. 
 
[Era] is a fragmented story of a person living through an era. It is a story about anyone and everyone. The pain, suffering and anxiety that pervade over all of our lives are explained in palpable detail. We are all familiar with the absurdity of a happy ending and [Era] details the resilience and gumption required to survive through life. amu's [Era] is a timepiece which helps listeners identify and embrace which part of the cycle they find themselves in.

[Program Note]
Sound disappears over time.
Time is a series of faded sounds.

When sensing, time does not move by exact intervals nor flows in one direction. Inside the mind, the same length of time could become a fleeting moment or an eternity. Under the name of memory and intuition, past and future pass through.

The sounds generated by an acoustic instrument are fated to linger for a certain period and fade away. However, in this piece, piano sounds that disappear after playing recur as electronic sounds. Through this process, the boundary between beginning and end becomes meaningless. The piano sounds recurring as fragments, tremors, or as a whole cast doubt about the proposition. 'Sound disappears as time passes by.' With the mixture of piano sounds flowing linearly and electronic sounds coming back recursively, this piece shows the subjective face of time.

[Program Note]
People live their lives on their own trajectories. Different trajectories of variant directions, with other ways of movement and different shapes of trails left behind, overlap and intersect to form a connection.

This piece focuses on the centrality of 'hitting' and 'tapping' in percussion performance. It captures the change of timbre when the instruments, the object of the 'tapping,' change. 'Trajectory' also focuses on the experiment of the sound changing by the movement of the two performers. 

The performers move along the instruments arranged in an arc, creating a trajectory. Each movement, starting from a distance, converges to a point. When the separated instruments meet at the point of contact, the two trajectories blend, covering each other's territory with the same timbre. The combination of the trajectories of the percussion instruments played alongside the electro-acoustic sound, their meeting at the point, and the combination of the points and the trajectories creates a timelessly changing tone.

[Program Note]
Sweet Spot Inaccessible is an interdisciplinary project that explores new ways of listening to immersive sound through a kinetic sound installation. It is born from the artist's struggle with an incurable pain syndrome, which led to a questioning of the traditional audience's body shaped by institutionalized art appreciation. The project introduces 'multiple or shifting sweet spots,' challenging the passive listening norm that confines the viewer's posture to the 'sweet spot' when listening.

Jennifer presents 48.1 channels of immersive audio space in three different moving sound system installations. The intertwined pieces ('Feeler,' 'Fluid Balance,' and 'Transient Terrain'), totaling 25 minutes in length, form a multi-domain, with the components of each piece realized through ambisonic coded movements and the physical movement of the installation itself. The exhibition site is separated or combined into different sound fields through the movement of sound and the selective combination and use of speaker channels.

The exhibition encourages visitors to discover their own sweet spots. It attempts to recall the individuality of 'balance' and 'comfort' and restore the proactivity of the viewer's body, attempting a new definition of balance as dynamic and variable rather than a static and eternal state.

[Program Note]
A closed surface is a finite surface without boundaries that completely encloses a portion of space. A hole must first be drilled to create a boundary on a closed surface. Moving from one space to another is impossible without perforating the closed surface, as it separates the inside from the outside.

In this piece, the closed surface was assumed to consist of glass, and the propositions above were approached considering the physical properties of glass. The word 'perforate,' which means 'to drill a hole,' includes three concepts: surface, hole, and penetration. These concepts were explored by recording the sounds of glass being tapped, broken, rubbed, or dropped into water. The process of encountering a blocked surface, piercing a hole, and entering through it is guided by the altered and transformed sounds of glass.

SCR Special: International Women's Day Exclusive Mix - Amu (March 8, 2019)

Even at the end of the world there will be clubbers. [Right, But’Club] is txtrs.’s second compilation album dedicated to the clubbers that even mankind’s collapse cannot stop.

Inspired by ‘Forever 27 Club’ a phrase used to describe a group of artists who passed before their time, ‘Right, But’Club’ describes the lives of millennials who struggle to prosper despite having done everything ‘right’. Our second EP is an interpretation of these dystopian and despondent ideals and realities.

To make [Right, But’Club] a physical reality, @textures.seoul collaborated with rave culture inspired streetwear brand @gpd_gearpurposedefined to form a team of millennial artists and designers. Together, we created a line of merchandise fit for any festival, rave, or streetwear, released before the ‘end of humanity’ as some doomsdayers would like to think.

Spinoza said that he would plant an apple today even if the world is to collapse tomorrow. In that spirit, despite facing the odds of imminent global destruction we’ll be at the clubs lending our bodies to music. Let the tracks of our new compilation speak for itself and imagine yourself dancing like there is no tomorrow.

인류가 멸망한대도 클럽에 가야한다는 사람들을 위해 textures. 가 준비한 지침서 [Right, But’Club] 

스물일곱살에 세상을 떠난 아티스트들의 모임 ‘Forever 27 Club’과 같이 ‘Right, But’Club’ 은 2000년대 당시 옳은 일을 했지만 안타깝게 망한 사람들을 지칭하는 모임의 이름이다. 한국의 하우스/테크노 장르를 이끌어 가고 있는 @textures.seoul 의 멤버들은 이 디스토피아적인 주제에 영감을 받아 곧바로 두번째 컴필레이션 제작에 들어갔다. 

앨범을 제목 그대로 중의적인 의미가 담긴 이번 앨범은 음악 이 외에도 클럽과 페스티벌 문화에 영향을 받아 탄생한 패션 브랜드 @gpd_gearpurposedefined 와의 협업으로 그 어떤 클럽과 페스티벌에서도 간편하게 입고 춤을 출 수 있는 콜라보레이션 의류 또한 릴리즈 한다. 

textures. 와 GPD, 음악과 패션, 각자 다른 분야에서 90년대생들을 대표하며 활동하는 이 젊은 아티스트들의 협업은 과거 인류가 예측했던 인류 멸망의 시기인 2020년이 되기 전, 가장 주목해야할 협업임에 분명하다.

스피노자는 내일 지구가 멸망하더라도 오늘 한 그루의 사과나무를 심겠다고 했다. 마찬가지로, 내일 지구가 멸망하더라도 우리는 오늘 클럽에 가서 음악에 몸을 맡길 것이다. 지난 컴필보다 더 뚜렷해진 이번 앨범의 언더그라운드 댄스 트랙들을 들으며 내일이 없는것 처럼 춤을 추는 우리의 모습을 상상해보자.

Never a Land Without People is a charity compilation for Palestine and it’s people. Volume I was released in 2018 as a response to the killing of 183 Palestinian protestors at the Gaza-Israel border.

Nearly two years later, the everyday life of Palestinians living in the West Bank remains incredibly difficult. A 440 mile long wall constructed by the State of Israel prevents many Palestinians from access to their own homes, land, and livelihood. They are also forced to cross time-consuming and dangerous checkpoints in order to access food, healthcare, and other basic necessities.

All profits from volume II will be donated to www.adalah.org — a grass roots non-profit organization that works to protect the human & legal rights of Arab minorities living in the State of Israel.

다리를 다쳐 병원에 입원한 지윤은 20대 간병인 해화의 친절한 모습에 안도감을 느끼지만, 우연히 해화의 기이한 행동을 보게 된다.

[Synopsis]
Ji-yoon finds herself trapped in a hospital with a sinister atmosphere. Her roommate’s decrepit appearance, and the strange behaviour of her carer Haewha, soon leaves Ji-yoon concerned for her safety.

amu's personal experience of anxiety and fear leading to actual physical pain have led to motivating her for sharing 'senses' through music. Including the sound of pounding the body, the ambiance such as submerging into the water, and the sound of the hair-raising sense of the back, her music is embodied as a substance with physical properties, leaving a sense of lingering rather than emotional lingering.

As the co-founder/director of the Seoul's first underground house/techno channel “textures.”, amu has been curating her texture to the people in Seoul. “amu selects” series introduced notable techno tracks/artists combining with the scenery of Seoul as a video. The “amu selects” series illuminates the local techno scene through the first volume and the overseas techno through the second volume.
