A companion and a friend, Undveld guides through a path of piercing heights and desolate, barren plains. Every peak of emotional distortion seems physical, each pulled string heartfelt and raw. The young Lithuanian artist has amassed an extensive discography of experimental electronic work released on offworldcolonies, Perfect Aesthetics, static motion including others, his talent in production marked by deeply sensitive compositions and dynamic structures. It is safe to assume that there is much discovery to be made on the artistic and personal journey with Undveld.

Personal experiences, uplifting hopes, meditative fantasies and harsh realities are all carried in the third Amulet by Anasisana. A visual artist as well as a musician under several different aliases (Buried Alive, Nonchalant, Perfect Stranger), the Tunisian creator blends emotional slowcore songs, hypnotizing melodies and more abrasive experimental rhythms to breathe new air into the accustomed field of ambient music. His most recent release, a cassette titled "Perfect Stranger", was released by Trust Collective in September of 2020. In the work of Anasisana, thoughtfulness and subtlety shine a bright, yet melancholic light.

"Field recording, that cherished technique of electroacoustic artists, gets fresh conceptual treatment with “Eaves Drop” by Horaflora, one of the aliases used by Raub Roy (Oakland, CA). Using a Sennheiser AMBEO binaural headset, he collected a year’s worth of public and private footage, then collaged it with sparse, yet pointed, instrumentation. Straddling diarist and voyeur, Roy evokes and lingers upon questions about field recording in the context of surveillance capitalism—and the purposes of music made in its purview.

There’s kids’ playground babble. The artist striking a piano key on his porch, as a train sounds in the distance. Like rummaging through the NSA’s trash, these sounds are irrelevant to governments or corporations (for now), but fruitful for more generous listeners. The crow caws, the dog barks, the door creaks. And then a firecracker explodes, and you throw off your headphones as it seemed a real firecracker actually exploded just above your right temple.

The realistic yet aestheticized arrangement of sounds in space is where the dynamism of this album lies. There’s a moment of beautiful clarity when we hear a woman singing along to Jazmine Sullivan’s “Bust Your Windows.” Her voice, going along with the song that’s playing in her own headset, cuts through all the noise, making a poignant threat. But then she’s drowned out by some bureaucrat’s intercom as the album flows onward, each cataloged and collaged sound seamlessly shifting into the next arrangement.

Lines between composition and chance blur; the tapping on a snare, the languid strumming of strings could be read as a musician’s self-surveillance. The fact that these are recordings from the Bay Area, where he lives, is not coincidental. Such methods are at the heart of big tech’s empire, and though “Eavesdrop” is not explicitly confrontational regarding such concerns, the album does tap the sense that we, as privacy erodes and mutates, are becoming voyeurs of our own lives."

Pérégrinations au travers d'un fin chemin bordé de coquelicots noirs et d'une brume épaisse, où s'agitent des âmes de tous horizons.

"After a brief cameo on the quadruple tape beast "Auditory" (2018), Evitceles is back on Sound+Matter / Sores. This time heʼs making a full-length appearance. Following acclaimed releases for electronic powerhouses as Opal Tapes, Yerevan Tapes, Seagrave or Sofia-based Amek Collective among others, Bulgarian producer Etien Slavchev presents 'Нелюбовʼ. Roughly translating in English as 'Nonloveʼ itʼs exactly what youʼll get from the record. "Нелюбов" is mostly occupying the lower ends of both the frequency and the emotional specters of Evitcelesʼ music.

Choosing to serve the music narrative through a fluidly morphing tracklist, Evitceles once again indulges into his signature genre-bending approach. His music doesnʼt stay on the same place for too long. Instead itʼs a relentless mixture of peaks and come-downs. From the bleak and disrupted soundscapes of Memory Loss through the sparse ambience of the self-titled track, the cavernous trip-hop vibe of Weak Eyes or his well-known post-club brutalism in Poisonous Fragrance and Percolating Crawl. Evitceles is still big on producing drum-heavy music, dripping with cut-up emotional textures. However, atmosphere is all in "Нелюбов" so donʼt be surprised when you hear him wrapping the album with not one or two, but three drifting long-form pieces, because in the end of the day everything is meant to die in silence."

Crushed By Water

Ardor is the brilliant collaborative effort of Canadian sound artists B.P. and Body of Intrigue. As a duo, the two have recorded and released joint works on the Male Activity label, previously ran by B.P.; as Ardor, they continue to foster a sonic garden of flowers seemingly blooming and withering over and over, with a scarce piece of everyday meditation occurring in between each cycle. The mix for Amulet of Tears includes only original works, either recorded individually by each of the two, or created together.

ʼIs My Destroyerʼ unfolds like a story arc, always filled with a sense of time and direction as ideas morph, grow, disperse and rekindle; with key pieces like ‘Palaceʼ these ideas seem unbound, bursting out of their seams with emotional grandeur, elegance and passion, while other works such as ‘Orioʼ or ‘The Towerʼ offer sincere moments of reprieve.

Premiere: Blessed are the Hearts that Bend - Kaal [Vaknar]

‘4-Track Guitar Musicʼ is the unassuming title of a cassette by Swedish composer Mats Erlandsson, which was originally released on Kali Maloneʼs and Maria W. Hornʼs XKatedral label in 2018. Composed using only, as the album title implies, a 4-track tape deck and an electric guitar, the music was later modified on the computer and re-amplified in the machine hall of a disbanded Swedish iron mine. Contrary to the albumʼs modest title however, the music is a tour-de force of exuberance and stoic catharsis, continuously bordering on a sense of ecstatic serenity, sincere contemplation and restraint.

Now Vaagner is proud to present the work on vinyl for the first time via a fully remastered reissue of ‘4-Track Guitar Musicʼ, with the Double LP including a bonus track by Mats Erlandsson which was not included on the original release.
