The work of sound artist Ryan Hill from Illinois, USA is better revealed through poetry and imagery rather than verbose descriptions. KAGAMI Smile is his most recent active project, already considerable in its vast output of releases across labels such as Søvn Records and Opal Tapes. His own record label Forgot Imprint, much as his personal production, exhibits digital relics, lost dreams and the innate nostalgic emptiness of the 21st century.

The next mixtape comes from musician and composer Remo Seeland, who is behind the Swiss experimental label Hallow Ground. He’s presenting a selection of the label’s music, partly in response to the label's recent publication, their first ever "concept-compilation" Epiphanies (Hallow Ground, 2022) released earlier in March this year.


Founded by Remo Seeland, Hallow Ground was created in 2013 and has been instrumental in launching the careers of artists such as Kali Malone and FUJI||||||||||TA as well as recently releasing albums by Lawrence English, Norman Westberg, Maria W Horn and Siavash Amini, as many of Seeland’s composition as well. More than a record label, Hallow ground is a platform for Music and Art that leads to ‘Visions’, also acting as We act as publishers, hosts and performers.

For the label's first ever compilation, the artists were commissioned to pursue a non-rational creative process in approaching the phenomenon of epiphany through sound. The results, whether long-form, short vignettes, profane and concrete sounds or spiritual and abstract pieces, perfectly encapsulate what Hallow Ground as a label has stood for since its inception in the year 2013: challenging not only conventional notions of what music is supposed to sound like but also the listeners' perception through the power of sound.


The mix Seeland has prepared for us reflects on the sound of some of the main artists behind the label, and a joyous and sinuous journey into experimental introspection.

Acknowledging is like blooming outside the windows, constantly stretching beyond what can be perceived. Gravitational pull of the conformity between ear and eye to hand out a state of plainness. A sudden downpour on solid ground where ports of novelty leaves the humble abode.

'mntngr' is a strongly rousing album by Alethe, that portrays his reflection on the trip to Montenegro throughout of being able to take the redolent imagery of his traverses - while the very self-contained work is joined by the amicably composed track with False Moniker. The sharp allusion and shifting blur to translate it into vigorous, and florid opus.

The https://soundcloud.com/appropriate_savagery project was born in 2017 from an attempt by its author to encapsulate and transcribe in his sounds the most visceral emotions of the human race, such as joy, fear, sadness, hatred or disgust. As a result, this project is fiercely interested in the different relationships that unite and divide humans.
This podcast is a collection of atmospheres, past and recent sources of inspirations, which he likes to listen to and which give him the strength to continue his work.

"What has been a crucial sound experience in your life?"
There have been many memorable experiences in the field of music but when reading this question I immediately thought of this one. In 2015 I was producing techno and had little interest in ambient and was unfamiliar with the world of noise in general. Then, a dear friend of mine made me listen to the album "Frozen Niagara Falls" by Prurient, an artist I knew nothing about until then. This album was a crucial discovery in my listening experience since I discovered a whole new musical world in which I recognized myself much more. I questioned the way I wanted to convey emotions in my music for months and then, the Appropriate Savagery project was born.
