Although a relative newcomer to the DJ game, JASSS has really managed to shake up the dance floor in the last couple of years ( not least with her residency at Berghain's Säule). Releases on Anunnaki Cartel, Mannequin and iDEAL Recordings have showcased her rugged and gritty approach to EBM, industrial, acid and techno. Between those releases she has covered experimental sound art, soundscapes and more club focusses beats, all while playing to her own rules and fighting her own internal battles.

On her Dekmantel podcast the Spaniard goes direct to the club with visceral drums and stark synths. It’s a mix that hurries you along for the ride, jostling you with breakbeats and rave stabs then rewriting your brain with prickly techno before allowing you a moment to breath in some more elastic and rubbery house music. It’s always full flavour, high impact stuff that is brilliantly compelling and strobe lit throughout, whether stepping at half time or falling over itself in a race to the end.

Nark, aka Kevin Kauer, founder of Bottom Forty and Nark Magazine, has devoted his life to dance music and club culture. For the last decade, he's helped cultivate Seattle's queer community, running a kaleidoscope of above and underground nightlife events including party/political movement Dickslap, a series of annual alternative Pride festival weekends, and the programming at Q Nightclub where he served as resident and creative director. For GhostlyCast #81, Nark delivers a marathon mix that serves as an emotional release and celebrates a recent revelation. "This year was about realizing I'm already exactly where I want to be and surrounded by boundless talent and energy here in the Seattle scene," he says. "Over the years of traveling the world and playing all these cool parties and making new friends and colleagues, I've only to come to realize how hard it is for anyone to separate friendship from competition; it puts a heavy emotional toll on so many people in the scene that builds exponentially, and it can really bring you down. For me, making this mix was about representing myself exactly the way I feel, not up to anyone else's standard. It's about letting go of the things I thought I wanted to chase after and instead, being in the present with myself, our scene and the people around me who need and support me as much as I do them."
