Dare to Suck

This mix is so special for so many reasons. First off, it was released as the opener for our stage at the first Virtual Burning man, SPARKY, which shares the name of the amazing artcar we, Camp @square_one_1 bring to the playa every year. It was so special to bring it in this medium and expand our artist reach to all over the world. Sharing our first stage with 35 incredible artists was a real honor.

You'll also see that I'm sitting in this picture. I did this whole mix cross-legged as I had a broken foot. The universe put me on timeout right before the whole world did the same. This mix represents what was going on in my soul when I paused, reflected, and sat with myself, looking deeply inward. 

Thank you so much to @justemmaoffical for putting this together to make it happen in our beauful home in Tulum. Maiz Rojo is truly a magical place on this earth. 

Thank you all for tuning in, requesting this mix, and reminding me just how lucky I am to be able to share moments like this.

You are pieces.
Not peace. 
Not to say one or several of those
pieces can’t be peace or also
boredom which, if you haven’t,
learned is peace if you
let it lead you to foggy swamps. Or
the peripheries of lakes, littoral
chasms, the kind you stood at in awe as
a child not knowing awe because awe, 
once, was all you knew. Now
you know all sorts: you are
the plastic end of the toddler’s kaleidoscope, 
a smattering of pieces that seen
through the cardboard tube make, made, will
continue to be very awesome for the clean brain, the young
brain whose matter is just barely
formed.
Just barely breached by the water at
the edge of which we stand.
Never fully entering, perhaps
dipping toes, trembling
on the bladderwracked barnacles, seafoam coming up(!) to our toes.
And we jump back, and giggle.
In awe now, when I land on the pink sparkly piece 
of me that is
grief which is
often, always, so close in form (as though a toddler cut
with yellow-handled safety scissors or razor blade) to joy, 
(and didn’t I?)
as though, impossibly, we are, 
in fact, so placidly simple but made so marshy, pot-holed, treacherous, by
the labeling of pieces of us with different names. Of course 
you cry. You are
only a child with big feet, sometimes
in awe. And you
have stood on islands,
the barbican islands that life breaches, with westerly waves swamps.
Like the one at Popham with the little 
aluminum plaque that tells about the boy 
who, in an eastern storm one winter in 1984, 
also drowned, swamped, swept out to sea, while 
herring gulls laughed, and fell out of the sky.
I imagine he was in awe.
And all his pieces come so briefly together, now
are the floating stuff of wave break on basalt
on which you stood last August, falling, 
as they say, but very willfully, 
to pieces, smearing my pieces
apart, in the hope that you might jump
the gun, fit their interstices, align
their jagged silly bits, cut with X-acto 
blade by your toddling hand some two decades before when awe 
was all. 
How we’d like to climb up, jump twice.
