Extend the Dawn for solo oboe and fixed electronics

This piece depicts the transition between night to morning on Hampstead Heath. The electronics were recorded on the Heath and on the Hampstead Heath Extension, capturing the dawn chorus, traffic noise, and other natural sounds. This is the supplemented by warped oboe samples to create a holistic soundscape. The piece culminates with sunrise, before fading away into daylight.

Salve Regina (Choral) - Amy Summers

This piece won the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Walter and Dinah Wolfe Composition Award, and was performed by pianist, Rolf Hind in the Stevenson Hall, Glasgow on 11th May 2018. 

The initial inspiration for this piece came while I was walking in the mountains on the Isle of Arran.
As I climbed upwards I was transfixed by the complex glimmering surface of the granite rocks, which came off in shards in my hands as I gripped them for stability. The mountainous landscape that seemed so strong and permanent was in fact very fragile and eroding, undergoing a process of natural decay.
This piece reflects the rough, fragile instability of these mountains, which seem so removed from human life and yet share our vulnerability, especially with the affects of climate change and the destructive impact of humans in these precious landscapes.
