In the dark days of December 2015, shortly before being awarded the Queen’s Medal for Poetry, Scotland’s Makar Liz Lochhead came to Tobermory to record an album with Dundee band The Hazey Janes and her regular saxophonist Steve Kettley.
The project, commissioned by An Tobar, The Tobermory Art Centre, grew from her long friendship with the late, great Michael Marra – his son and daughter play with The Hazey Janes. That natural bridge, and the poem “The Optimistic Sound” written by Liz on the day of Michael’s funeral, led to this new collaboration.

Camrie MacInnes has music in her genes with her Dad Steven and Uncle Fraser being two of Scotland's top dance band drummers and the generation before that including The MacKenzie Sisters - Joannie and Fiona were outstanding singers. Check out their performances on Bobby MacLeod's records.

Camrie sang this song in a school concert last year to a recording of Sorren's guitar and since we already had a good recording of the guitar part, it seemed like a good idea to have her come into An Tobar and record her singing. The song is from the 1970s when it was made famous by the band Silly Wizard.

The song is about a romance at a St Michael's Day festival and was written during a songwriting residency in 2011 at An Tobar led by poet Kevin MacNeil and musician Willie Campbell, both from Lewis. It was recorded live in the studio at An Tobar with -
