The use of autotune in sections really emphasise the "Love Tape" vocals, like at 1:01. 🎛️🎛️🎛️ And then, Ana, your voice without that autotune effect sounds beautiful, making for a super creative contrast. 👩‍🎤👩‍🎤👩‍🎤 The vocals at 1:13 and the reversed (?) ones at 2:43 are beautiful. 😍💜 The vocal delivery reminds me a bit of FKA Twigs, like her song "Two Weeks"!! I am a huge fan of both you and Dan's music, and also FKA Twigs', so this "Love Tape" EP is just amazing. 🌸 🌸 🌸

The arrangement is expertly thought through. 🔮🔮🔮🧙🧙🧙 The song is especially powerful and fascinating with the pitch shift at 1:35 - that transition truly blew me away. It sounded so clean and satisfying! 🧚‍♀️🧚‍♀️🧚‍♀️ Everything fitted into place in that switch up, which is something not easy to do, but you both made it seem easy! Just simply closing my eyes and listening to this track, completely immersing myself in the vibe... it feels like pure bliss. 😌 😌 😌

So this one is for each and everyone out there who has been wrongfully accused and has been seeking reasons and understanding in this matter.

I have used old effects to create a certain kind of sound that is still clear but also rich with the core sound from the guitar.

The guitar brands I've used is a Squier Telecaster (heavily modified) an Epiphone SG (built in Korea) and a Yamaha SG 200 from 1985.

I love these old japanese guitars, the old Chibsons we're great as well. Really well built and so much potential if you wanted to modify them!

Love Tape

Born a Slave

After our first collaboration - https://soundcloud.com/markjbennett/set-me-down-that-road-rplanesmjbennett - Rodolfo offered me a challenge in the form of a decades old song (in a folk/pop style, complete with tape hiss) that he was updating with a platform that is closer to R&B and my task was to come up with a new lyric. This original break-up song had an air of a happy ending to it, though initially I chose to write something less optimistic… however it became clear that with the new arrangement my words had to match the original mood. The added bonus to this is that I now have another break-up song lyric available for the future.
Singing a song that had already existed in another form meant that I had to find a very personal interpretation in order to make it truly mine. A huge thanks to Rodolfo for sharing his inspiring music with me.

++++. PROFILE NOTES ++++

Once a wannabe, not yet a has been.

It had been over a decade since I put together a song,
and for that matter basically walked away from music altogether.
Losing hope that I would ever have the time to put into music again,
I finally gave away my 3rd music studio.
I ran across SoundCloud around 2013,
and thought I might take what few songs I had recorded, 
and lay them to rest there.
And there they languished.

HOWEVER, around 2017 I went back to SoundCloud
and began listening a little more and a little more,
and actively taking a part in visiting the sites
of so many wonderful musicians and beautiful songs.
Also, more and more often I would discover that these artists
were blossoming everywhere around the world,
and most definitely worthy of high praise and compliments.

Then suddenly, these old dead soundtracks right here
began to have a bit of life breathed back into them.
From the kind words that began to come trickling in,
I thought, maybe, someday I might give this music thing a try again.

The thing that finally pushed me into action
was a particular SoundCloud artist…Sander Heerings,
AKA https://soundcloud.com/wane-of-summer
 

Not only was he encouraging,
but he began faithfully responding to a few questions,
then a barrage of them.

The final result seemed to be that after a couple of months,
the Old Grinder now has a 4th studio and, finally, a new song.
I hope there may be many more to come.

Thank you Sander, and to the multitude that have dropped in
to listen to these old songs, 
and most of all, for perking up my spirits.
