I played with Fnubi’s Cameo track (https://soundcloud.com/fnubi/cameo-unfinished-disquiet0525), over that great pulse I added an Harmonium melody (low stops and tremolo stop)
I couldn’t resist to add a sparse upright bass and , to punctuate some chord changes not in the original I added a synth pad. There’s no room for much more I’m afraid. (Some percussion track perhaps? It is performed over a click at 104BPM…)

But, if anybody want a version more unfinished and spacey I can provide a mix  without the synth+bass (or without the Harmonium, mind…) Just PM me and let me know.

Birds of Change (disquiet0579)

This is the first of several pipe organ pieces I will be working on. The goal is to explore several types of organs for minimlist dronelike pieces of music. I am using the awesome virutal organs of the Virtual Organ Company, in this case the L'Orgue Couperin: http://www.virtualorgancompany.com/vritualvstfrenchbaroqueorgan.asp
The goal is to write music for the particular sound and sound possibilities of different pipe organs.
This project is inspired by the exceptional pipe organ work of Sarah Davachi, but of course I cannot imitate her, but have to go my own path.

Disquiet Junto Project 0601: Hard Six
The Assignment: Let a roll of the dice determine the relative prominence of various parts of a track.

The project was inspired in part by recent correspondence with Junto participant Robert Precht. More to come in that regard. 

Step 1: Choose six brief segments of sound that you have recently recorded. Or record some new segments now. Either way, select six of them, and label them one through six.

Step 2: Roll a single die for each of the six segments chosen in Step 1.

Step 3: The result of each roll in Step 2 represents the relative presence of that given segment in a finished piece of music. Think about how the pieces might relate to each other. This idea of relative presence can mean whatever you want: frequency of appearance, relative volume, intelligibility etc.

Step 4: Record a piece of music in which the relative presence of the segments chosen in Step 1 correlate with the results from Step 2.

Used dice rolls to establish a polyrhythm sequence on the Elektron Analog Rytm with samples I recorded from the Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas Alter. Opted to use a D20 die to give more chance of distance between triggers and hopefully more variance in the pattern. Each roll would determine the length of each track, with a trigger placed on the last step. Originally tried rolling two more dice to determine which samples would used from my sample pool, but ultimately I felt that extra level of randomness was not producing pleasing results and it completely removed any creative element of human choice.  However, I did keep one of the random samples selected in the same slot and I put another random sample selection on a different track that fit the timing better.  I made four sets of rolls and pursued each pattern for a bit. The final results I am presenting were made by rolling 17, 11, 19, 3, 5, and 9. The track is named for a three dimensional shape with 20 faces.

My weekend's pretty busy, so I kind of cheated my way out of this assignment: I took the prompt literally and just read aloud 25 % "sound" and 75% "silence".

Disquiet Junto Project 0606: Three to One 

Compose a piece of music with three times as much silence as sound.

There’s just one step to this project:

Compose a piece of music that is 75% silence and 25% sound.

Background: Jason Richardson proposed a previous project, which was 50/50 in terms of the radio of silence to notes. As that project unfolded, Klaus-Dieter Hilf (aka RabMusicLab) commented that maybe the instruction should have read “sound” in place of “notes.” Since the project went well, this time around the amount of silence has been increased, and Hill’s proposal has been implemented.
