The title of the album 'Se Vende' means 'For Sale' in Spanish. I've lived in Alicante for nearly 3 years (native of Lancashire), and the remnants and consequences of the housing boom and bust are prevalent throughout the city - from the ubiquitous For Sale' signs to half-completed blocks of flats.  The three tracks are an attempt to recreate aurally the initial euphoria of the boom times and the (almost) inevitable economic collapse and slowdown. 

The title track, Se Vende, is layered with recordings from the city - flamenco guitarists on street corners, 
old 78s on antique record players at markets, the cacophony of a construction sites (including concrete mixers - this is musique concrete after all!) - augmented by tape loop manipulations, cheap analogue synths and keyboards, off-kilter 909 Rhythms, and some grade 1 piano playing. 

The songs Chimes pt1 and 2 follow the diy ethos of the above, but this time the using recordings taken from Clot de Galvany, the former site of the Republican Defensive Line during the Spanish Civil War and now a nature reserve, located a few miles outside the city centre.  The ambient sounds of the bunkers and trenches were incorporated into the tracks. Chimes Pt 1 features the words of Elsa Hasselgarde from Sweden.

We've been a bit quiet on the radio front, as I'm moving country again so no time to put together the interviews.  However, we've been busy with the second release from DePatterning (aka Gary Mentanko of Wist Rec).   Full details below.

Press Release:
Depatterning is the work of Canadian born Gary Mentanko, now living in Wexford, Eire.  Gary will be familiar to those who know his own label Wist Rec, which has been releasing ‘handy music handmade’ from the likes of The Humble Bee, Tape Loop Orchestra, and Loscil since 2009.  This is his first Depatterning project outside of Wist Rec. The title, The Community Pasture, comes from a land-management service provided in the Prairie Provinces of Canada started back in the 1930s, when Gary’s Ukrainian ancestors first arrived in the province of Saskatchewan. 

Side A is collection of 11 songs of pastoral hums and aural traditions with a decidedly synth-ethic featuring snippet of family voices and field recordings from the past and present.  On Side B, there is a 23 minute chat with Gary about the music, his inspirations and the wonder of the early electric age.
