Dark Entries welcome back San Francisco based DJ and producer Sepehr Alimagham for his debut album ‘Shaytoon’. He cites early influences like Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, and post-hardcore bands for kick-starting his affinity for off-kilter, underground music. In 2017 Sepehr began performing live PA sets and released his first EP on Black Catalogue. He’s since released music on Squirrels On Film, Acid Camp, Legwork, EON, and the ‘Body Mechanics’ EP for us in 2018.

Drenched in nostalgia from his upbringing, ‘Shaytoon’ pays homage to 1970s Iranian albums that were on rotation throughout his youth. Eight tracks of twisted acid, left-of center electro, sludgy psychedelia, and things-you-can-maybe-call-techno are a few of the sonic elements found within. Regular listeners will find Sepehr’s signature perspiratory dance-floor vibe, but some songs also showcase a low-slung, cerebral approach. Sepehr's unique sonic palette carves an interesting space in the dance music world by harnessing the spirit of his cultural ancestors. All songs have been mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The artwork pays tribute to ‘70s Iranian pop and funk albums with bold Farsi calligraphy and portraits by Sahra Jajarmikhayat. In relation to the music, the album cover creates a dichotomy much like Throbbing Gristle's ’20 Funk Jazz Greats’. Berakhs (Dance).

Japanese industrial / avant-garde synth duo group A partner with choreographer/performer Dana Gingras and Montréal media artist Sonya Stefan as well as Finnish lighting designer Mikko Hynninen for 'anOther', the multimedia project developed and premiered at Agora de la danse, Montréal, April 2018.

Inspired by the infamous subway scene from Andrzej Zulawski’s “Possession", the performance is breathing through a set of televisions, sounds, lights and images converging to create an exhilarating event placing a living, breathing and transmuting body at the heart of the experience.

100% of profits from this Friday’s release will be donated to a very worthwhile cause, the Ruff Sqwad Arts Foundation - Grime pioneers Rapid and Slix (Prince Owusu-Agyekum and Ebenezer Ayerh) started this foundation in 2017 in order to help create opportunities for young people who have incredible talent but who are from a less advantaged background, thus potentially not having the chances to develop their skills to the fullest.

Having been inspired by the sounds that spawned from Ruff Sqwad, other Grime originals, and so many other resulting waves of UK music, it was so energising to find out more about this amazing work that has evolved from it.

They approach education and collaboration in an incredibly genuine and musically apt way - creating a bridge between grassroots ethics and industry ambition.

Impish Desires addresses feelings many club goers have, but, maybe don't talk about. Sinister and frustrated music, that's ready 2 jak and slaps the subs. Six minutes and 48 seconds of angry, alienated body music. The cherry on top is a flute solo by Ji Hoon to send you deeper into the rabbit hole.

Two years after their first record came out, the crew operating legendary dance nights in Nantes are back on top of the new release pile. Two original tracks by Kanot and two remixes. Overall, their stylistic balance signature is maintained, although the gravity center is a bit more leftfield and poetic, a bit less dance-obvious. But that's only in comparison to other material : any of the four pieces here can take a dance floor apart, played at the right time.

Hit & Run has a massive "star grabbing" feel, the synth and guitar surges sounding like as many jumps above the stratosphere, and the vocalizing choirs on top making it a definitive cosmi jam.
Turbulens is more earthy than spacy : drum breaks and big ass basslines bring out an irresistible leg shaking feel, the melodic guitars on top balance the vibe into that delicious moment when caribbean sunsets turn the day into a warm a groovy night, certainly a party starter.

The pilotwings remix is to the image of their added touch : trancy on edges but very far from easy or obvious. Constantly jumping above and diving under the line, it's playing greatly with dancers feet, and eventually their minds.

House man Vidock delivers the most danceable material on this record. His strong experience as a DJ for parties focused on having people dancing freely for a long time is clearly audible. This slo mo belter doesn't need much advertisement, it just needs to be played to any dancefloor, be it at midnight or 8 am.

Gestalt tried picking out 4-5 but to no avail, as the 10 tracks were inseperable. Anyhow they ended up taking on the whole lot on, to be released as a double album split into 2 installments.

‘Pt. I’ out 6 months ago is an effortless blend of breaks, bass and ambient, drawing heavily on artists such as Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin and Pluxus. This is (in our opinion) a pretty valiant release and a bit ‘outside the box’, but definitely something that warrants a physical manifestation. For this second part Bobo returns to Gestalt Records with a 5-track collection of surging harmonies, swirling basslines and pensive ambiance.
