I Surrender To Thee

Kiirtan is the singing of a mantra aloud while ideating on the Supreme Being. It inculcates the feeling of bliss and prepares the mind for meditation, because in performing it all the motor and sensory organs are engaged and directed towards the Supreme. It can be done anywhere, any time, but the best time is just before meditation.
The mantra used for kiirtan is: Bábá Nám Kevalam
Bábá means “my most beloved One,” Nám means “name of” or “to identify with”, and Kevalam means “only”. So the meaning of the mantra is “My most Beloved is the only One.” The ideation is: “Everywhere I look, in everything I hear, feel, see, taste and smell, I perceive that one Supreme Consciousness which pervades all things.”
Kiirtan has many benefits. It purifies the mind and prepares it for meditation, accelerating the speed of movement toward the Supreme.

Silver Moon

Kiirtan is the devotional singing of sanskrit mantra. It is designed to arouse feelings of love and joy within the practitioner while bringing their mind to a singular point. Kiirtan is the calling out of the human soul to the Divine Existance. One feels that just as I experience happiness the Divine too feels great joy when it's devotees sing out.

In Ananda Marga, Kiirtan is performed using a singular mantra as this aids the mind to become one pointed, which is essential for deep meditative practice. While we use one universal mantra, we employ many tunes to express the myriad sentiments of the human mind.

Baba Nam Kevalam goads the mind to attach to the Divine and to see all things as Divine manifestations, all objects, all thoughts, all feelings, everything is an expression of the One Infinite Consciousness.

Baba means Beloved nearest and dearest, Nam means Name and Kevalam means Only.
