DNA_the play

This piece was composed and filmed by Anastasis Sarakatsanos in Spring 2010 as a term project for the course 'Composing for Film and Media" at the University of Sussex. Using the Greek folk song 'Sirte Matia' as my launching pad, I worked on a context and a composition level, using, later, both elements to form the image.

My remix of 'The Secret Entrance' (Nikos Kypourgos, 2001). For the purposes of  the TV music documentary 'Music Secrets' in 2012, I remixed the original composition. Remix was used in the programme's episode titled 'Music Technology'.

Demo_Deux are a duet on a musical quest. Armed with only a piano and their voices, they travel across the musical traditions of the East and West, uncovering as they go along the hidden treasures of each land. As they journey through, each stop provides them not only the chance of displaying and sharing their own repertoire, but also of absorbing new sounds into their music.

Anastasis Sarakatsanos (piano) and Spyridoula Baka (vocals) have spent a decade wading through musical waters together. They both graduated from the Music School of Pallini, Athens, in 2001, taking parallel routes into the music business. Common projects in discography, film and theatre productions led them to a highly creative collaboration in December 2007. In the next 4 years, Demo_Deux weaved melodies into a wide repertoire. Only one motif to the choice of a song: that it will be able to speak to the heart of the audience.

I work as a theatre and film musician and musical director. Once in a while I get to record stuff that I compose or cover songs that I like.. This odd collection consists of pieces for theatre, term projects for the Uni, demo tracks for auditions and things I recorded for the fun of it. Some of them go back to 2004.
