[SAMO20] Sintex Bortexx - Ask Yourself

Michael son of Michael returns with the third and final instalment in his unintentional Margate trilogy - following in the proud tradition of trilogies like “The Godfather”, “Three Colours”, “Toy Story”, “The Lord of the Rings”, and Bowie’s “Berlin”.
The first EP reflected very loosely on the move to Margate - a UK coastal town once compared (unkindly) to Beirut, now more often compared (still unkindly) to Hackney. The second was shaped by lockdown life and a local community that was either elusive or illusory.
The third? A reluctant sign-off, inspired by the growing trend among nouveau locals to quietly abandon their seaside dream - not quite fleeing, but drifting inland in search of something else. More rural, more urban, or just… different.

Anyone following this guest mix series will probably know our next guest. He’s been a huge inspiration for Blank Wave, and one of the main reasons this platform exists in the first place.

Luca Venezia aka Curses — the Berlin-based DJ, producer, and label curator — blends New Wave, Post-Punk, Italo-Disco and EBM into dark, romantic club soundscapes that bridge nostalgia and modern energy (like no other). His latest album Another Heaven (2024) showcases his evolving sound, following Incarnadine (2022) and his debut Romantic Fiction (2018).

Together with Skelesys, he brought the duo Silver Tears to life, delivering a guitar-driven mixture of Post-Punk and Dark Wave with haunting melodies and cinematic textures. Curses also curates the brilliant Next Wave Acid Punx compilation series and runs Ombra International, a label dedicated to shadowy dance music from around the globe. His live sets, often featuring bassist Dame Bonnet, add a raw, post-punk edge to the dance floor and you should visit his live show whenever possible. With his monthly radio show Together Alone, Curses continues to navigate the twilight zone between wave and club culture — making him one of the defining voices of this darkly romantic movement.

Cat Gadget explores electronic music of the past decades. Her vinyl sets cannot be reduced to one genre, but are often characterized by Italo sound, driving EBM beats and spherical synths. Since she started collecting records early on, it was only a matter of time until she found herself behind the decks. Without a doubt one of the most original voices of Belgrade nightlife, Edin (@edinoma) hails from the first row of the city's insatiable dance floors. Now a regular at both famed @karmakoma-club-beograd and Eastern European underground cathedral @drugstorebeograd, Edin has been throwing parties since elementary school and it shows.

While in parallel being Drugstore/Karmakoma online omnivoice - Edin has been shaping his idiosyncratic expression all around, and since 2013, through venues like KC Grad, Dim, and 20/44, he played alongside Rabih Beaini, I-F, Legowelt, Intergalactic Gary, CJ Bolland, Pan Daijing, towLie, Les Yeux Orange, Benji DF, Albion, Red Axes, WC7, Elena Colombi, Soyoon, and many others.

Since 2018, Edin’s effort took the form of PUTNIK (trans. “Traveller” or “Voyager”) party series, while his phone calls from the Bardo have been broadcasted by platforms like Intergalactic FM, @mutantradio, @whypeopledance, and @commedeslarmes.

For 2018’s next expedition, veteran cosmonaut Benedikt Frey takes control of space command after making 2017 one of his several galactic conquests, putting his proverbial black, red & yellow flag in a stunning vinyl release on Bahnsteig 23, an equally stunning album on ESP, a plethora of killer remixes and continuing his record label ‘Love Pain Sunshine & Rain’. Need we say more?

His broad electronic taste is vast, and his sound can be a drift across the universe, a jump to hyperspace, industrial binary clunking or an extraterrestrial attack on the senses.
