ana wares’ debut release “Saturn Return EP” is a mix of influences from a multitude of genres spanning classical to blues and dance, and can best be described as ‘Techno Electronica’. With her floaty, dreamlike soundscapes, ana wares urges the listener to “tune in & tune out”.

Eye to Eye to Eye was partly inspired by a conversation with a friend. It means to stand confidently and express oneself without pandering; to look inwards at your higher truth without shame. Beginning with a simple bell & chime riff the spectrum of sound is filled with a rainbow of aftertones, creating a sound bath of harmonics. That hook line features throughout the piece, dainty and elegant atop a deep droning bass and oscillating piano chord pattern. Perfect for a sunny day. 

“Saturn Return”, written at the time of the artist’s own Saturn Return builds gradually, new layers of percussion entering almost every 8 bars until it’s almost overflowing, somewhat reminiscent of the chaotic mess of thoughts of higher purpose and direction that arise during this astrological milestone. A district rhythmic theme repeats through the various tuned percussion instruments and drives the story from beginning, to climax and release. A sentimental soundtrack to those rainy days you just want to stay rugged up inside.

Ana Wares - Sonarcotic

Written and released on my other alias, GEN-EVA (and on that account) in 2014. An ambient piano based emotive, slow groove.

This is the barebones structure of Am-Inate. Written in one night (and polished over the next week), this is one of my first actually finished tracks. It helped me find a clarity in the importance of using 'space' as one of the main instruments.

There's a new version on Timmus' debut Album "Ancient Storyteller" which is a collaboration between myself, Timmus (aka Micro Jaxon) and Augmented who have graciously allowed me to preview the original version in it's bare state to you, so please feel free to download, play and share :)

I gave myself a challenge today. I started a song last night that wasn't for a commercial release, but a cathartic release.

I'm an artist; I get stuck at 80% finished. Then I experience artistic blockages. They say that the closer you get to accomplishing something important to you, the further you are away from actually achieving it and 2014 has been a year of that for me. And in turn, I have been experiencing the the basic internal struggle loop of wanting to finish something so much that it has stopped me from putting ANYTHING out since my last release in February.
The last couple of months have been really exciting for me, and I am approaching the uncharted territory of creating the life I want for myself by being true to my higher purpose. To make something that I love into a functioning work model has previously been something I've shied away from, as I don't want to taint my passion and creativity, and in another way I am rebelling against the form of adulthood, where the idea I once had was that everything that was once fun becomes distant or loses it's rose colour.

Instead of wanting to make my life's work about the one thing I truly believe in, I have been shielding that side of me from what I once thought was the 'horrible injustice' of 'work', 'work' being a heavy, weighted notion in my mind.

And I finished a song. It's not perfect but I am perfectly happy to let it sit there, with the other songs that people have 'finished' so I can 'finish' other songs and bring what I want into creation, which essentially is MORE MUSIC !! xx

Here's a rough summary from the objective me describing it.

* Originally as counterpoint harmony as a piano instrumental (night of 20th December)
* Added in that kick with effects that reminded me of a heartbeat
* Played around with a drum loop - cut up the audio, reversed the crash, reassigned the rhythmic hits and resampled with fx which was intended to emulate almost a gasping for air,, so the percussion was supposed to be sparse and invoke a 'weary and worn' sort feeling but still beautiful.
* I've played with the phrases a bit so that there are extra unexpected bars, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
* The melody has taken a bit of an unexpected-yet-should-have-always-expected turn back to early 90's-ville and throughout the day the arrangement became heavily reliant upon and the structure of the track thus defined by an ode to the Cranberries' legendary hit 'Zombie'.

Arrhythmia

‘ana wares’ is the project of Melbourne based producer Eva Guss. ‘ana wares’ comes from the feeling of getting lost in music, fully immersed and unconscious to anything other than the experience of being in that moment. Tune in and tune out. 

With a strong focus on melody, often created by the layering of several different elements, ana wares’ sound is intricate and delicate yet full and strong. It is warm and nostalgic, inviting the imagination to dance along with the body. It is the vibe at 5pm on a sunny day leading to a beautiful sunset. All  instruments are both percussion and topline – from the drums to the horns, strings, vocals and various samples littered throughout all parts work together, often playing multiple roles in this electronic symphony. Experiments with harmonics and the use of LFO throughout both bass and treble lure the ears into the hypnotic flow while striking percussion and melodies that become earworms keep your attention hooked. 

Eva is a professional musician, composer, producer, lyricist, singer-songwriter, artist manager and label representative and as such has been on both sides of the music industry for over 20 years. She is label manager at Melbourne’s Lo-Fi-45 and has just launched her own imprint, awares recordings for self-distribution.
