SoHaSo is very happy to welcome an recently unknown entity on the label, Joannes is here with a fresh sound originating form the North of Holland. We all need to do shadow work once in a while, integrating our inner demons to create a more balanced reflection to carry out our lives from. The Got Needs EP provides the soundtrack for this personal journey, including delightful remixes by Nadia Struiwigh and Melatonin Man. 

Got Needs A1 is a powerful groove with heavily driven drum machines and 303 bassline for peak hour introspection, it doesn’t get more hypnotic than this. Melatonin Man strips down Joannes’ effort into a down-tempo electro affair containing some spell-binding rhythms that sure is to move some boo... 
On the B-side we find Joannes taking a more emotional approach, having pads and a cross rhythmic synth riff do the heavy lifting. Nadia Struiwigh takes these elements to the outer reaches of the universe. In her remix she slows it down and creates an intriguing dubby atmosphere with dystopian chords and industrial percussion.

Joannes - Got Needs

A regular at Cocktail d’Amore, Bell Towers is a Berlin-based Australian producer best known for his long-lasting collaboration with Munich’s Public Possession. Next to that, a number of projects under different monikers — namely Rim Boys, an evolving b2b with András.

“I'm Moving To Berlin” is his first EP for Cocktail d’Amore Music. It's a sparkling celebration of the party; its influence on the city and on the producer’s life tangents. “It’s too late now / There’s no turning back / I gave it all for Cocktail d’Amor…” Rohan confesses, while a hybrid EBM-synth pop sonic adventure unfolds.

What happens next is presented in “Sexual Intruder Alert” and “Approach and Identify”. The first comes through as a quirky multidimensional future-disco tale, while the second plunges deep into the cosmic hole with punchy percussions and an euphoric groove pattern.

¡Escúchame, Cabrón! is a limited-edition C50 cassette announced for pre-order on International Women's Day and made up exclusively of female artists or groups and collaborations featuring a strong female presence.

The purpose of the release is to bring to light, in our own small way, the systemic violence and oppression of women in Spain and around the world and to highlight the incredible female voices present in industrial and synthwave music today.

Spain is a country close to our hearts. It's a beautiful, historic, energetic and culturally-rich nation. Today, the problems women have to face in a society that is generally a privileged population are completely unnecessary. Problems such as being cross-examined in rape trials, gang rape cases being downgraded to sexual assault and an abundance of domestic violence. An average of one woman in killed by her partner per week.

In 2017 Spanish courts received more than 166,000 gender violence complaints against woman - a 16% increased on the year before. Spain is certainly not an exception. Some national studies show that up to 70 per cent of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime.

Ziger’s Eat My Hat imprint returns welcoming Kenan Savrun to the label for his debut single. Hailing from Ankara, the Turkish artist has a long history as a DJ dating back to 2003, having shared the booth with Alex Niggemann, Eli & Fur, Andy Bros, Victor Ruiz and Oliver Huntemann. Upon releasing his first productions in September of last year, Kenan has since gone to showcase his music on 3rd Avenue, Soundteller Records, Stripped Digital and Stellar Fountain’s Astrowave. Now embarking on the most anticipated release of his career, Kenan makes his Eat My Hat debut with ‘Shivaya’ alongside remixes from Ziger & Simos Tagias.

Having already developed a uniquely mystical sound, Kenan has been hotly tipped as one of the progressive scene’s brightest new talents. That sentiment will surely grow with  ‘Shivaya’ delivering on a profound level. Built on a backbone of tough beats and a full, perfectly carved groove, the peak time sensibility is high from the outset. Tranquil yet energetic, it’s pulsating arps and percussive flurries add dynamic splashes as momentum builds. The narrative shifts during the break with a cross cultural vocal taking centrestage, bringing moments of soul and emotion, before a timely drop transfers energy into an exhilarating finale. 

The first interpretation of ‘Shivaya’ is provided by Eat My Hat label boss Ziger. The Greek artist has had a tremendous summer season led by his ‘Faded Realm’ single which enjoyed a month long stay a top Beatport’s Progressive House Hype tracks chart. Add to that a Beatport Top 5 for his remix of Nosh & SJ’s ‘17:17’ also coming courtesy of Eat My Hat. Also laying claim to 2019 releases on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Eleatics Records, Ziger now lands back on his comfortable home of Eat My Hat with a superb rendition of ‘Shivaya’. Taking a cue from the original, the energy proves to be just as palpable here. A reworked groove ripples with powerful momentum as vocal fragments and dark stabs steal the air. Stripping down into the main break, wispy atmospherics add further intrigue before broken beats and a robust roll ignite a massive third act. 

The release concludes with Simos Tagias making his label debut and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Shivaya’. The Greek artist has been one of his country’s brightest stars in progressive house with a discography that features releases on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Movement Recordings, Proton Music and Sound Avenue. Now fresh off an EP for D-Formation’s Beatfreak Recordings, Simos debuts on Eat My Hat with a superb interpretation of ‘Shivaya’. Opting for a tough, more techno inspired approach the Athens resident focuses on electric rhythms and pulsating designs, for a perfectly dialled peak time affair. The main break showcases a cascading motif, although indistinct it's emotive appeal is strong, building in waves before the final act unleashes the full vocal for an epic finale. A massive remix from Simos which caps off another incredible release for Ziger’s Eat My Hat Music. Highly recommended.

Copenhagen's genius-like "Paxton Fettel" has been destroying dancefloors with his piano-heavy, joyous sound recently on labels like Delusions Of Grandeur and Greta Cottage Workshop. "I'd Like To Know You Better" is another fist-pumping jam that oozes positivity. London DJ "Kristy Harper" makes her debut in the production world with the slinky, pared-back disco groove of "Uncle Jungle" - an earworm of a track which she has been consistently pestered for when playing in her sets.
Sub Club resident Harri has been slaving away over new material as one half of Glasgow duo "Manakinz" alongside his bud Max, with their heavyweight, relentlessly building and layered house sounds exemplified on the extremely potent "Robopubez (Rust In Peace)". Sounds from South Africa round off the EP, as now-London-based talent "Maxime Alexander" turns out a phat acid-house-rap jam with fellow SA rapper $hakes' irresistible delivery on hand.

The 12 inch, titled Spaced Out, is a great leap forward for Jonahlo who has contributed excellent tracks to two Nómada White EPs over the past two years. Here he presents a fully developed sound across both sides of the album. Deep and grooving, the EP is full of carefully built textures and feeling. With an incredible knack for ear worm melodies and a meticulous approach to selecting samples, Jonahlo crafts a world all his own that's full of energy, depth, movement, and fun. This release is just a suited for the dance floor as it is for a sunset drive to nowhere in particular. It's something to get lost in. Something to get you spaced out.

In the early nineties, directly influenced by the Summer of Love of 1988, Florentine Riccardo Falsini began his project I Believe-a miscellaneous collection of records, compilations, and collaborations-released through his label Interactive Test (co-run with brother Franco Falsini).
These sounds would eventually reach Vancouverbased producer AVR (Avery La Rochelle) in the summer of 2018. Compelled by Riccardo's legacy as a producer and a deejay, Avery reached out to the Italian producer. A friendship formed that would see them collaborate on various dance events in Vancouver, as well as their Outside Of Time EP, a reverie of hallucinatory trance music. Over the past year, the duo recorded these tracks with the free spirit of early rave culture in
mind.
‘Outside Of Time’ is certified dance floor therapy that inspires the listener to believe in the power of love and music.

Heimlich Musik’s tenth release is a direct output of Tulioxi developing his new live show: using a broad range of analogue equipment the four original mixes of the The Downside of Being an Asshole EP represent the final result of a constant process of change taking place during many performances played live. 
 While the title track mirrors the somber mood of its name, maestro Curses is picking up the The Downside of Being an Asshole in his very unique style and pushes this special kind of mood to the max. To End up in Dark Mali is a modern version of Dark Wave with a recognizable lead synth shaping the tracks’ character. Collaborating between Berlin and Vienna, Local Suicide and Circle Scope strip down the original while adding acid sequences to create a massive dancefloor banger. Tulioxi tells The Story of Three Sequencers using disharmonic synths added to pulsating basslines and drum patterns dominated by powerful claps. The additional remix by Undo makes the bassline the center of attention while adding spheric arpeggios for a spacey experience.  Tremal NAik Dance is rounding up the EP as a whole with floating pads and dominant arpeggios as a perfect soundtrack for a night drive in the 80s. With The Downside of Being an Asshole the Heimlich journey continues with a powerful EP that can be experienced the best way by visiting one of Tulioxis’s advanced live shows

Casino Times aka Nicholas Church and Joseph Spencer from London have been betting against the house for close to 10 years already, winning big with releases on Wolf Music, Needwant, Omena and their own Casino Edits label. Premiere: Justin Jay - Rave Tool

Phonica welcome Yak to their ever-growing yet esteemed family, offering up the Sheffield based producers new four track ‘Gerudo EP’ on their central Phonica label. Perhaps unsurprisingly yet often a rarity these days, Yak is a classically trained instrumentalist which has enabled him to push his production to that next notch. This is reflected in the prestige of his releases, which have been for the likes of R&S, 3024 and Black Beacon having all received support from DJ royalty such as Ben UFO, Midland, Joy Orbison, Objekt, Call Super, Or:la and Laurel Halo amongst many others.

This new 12” is a great example of how percussion can be the vital core to direct movement on a dancefloor. The record opens with this premiere, ‘Zip’, a nod to the housier tracks that introduced Yak to electronic music. Fine keyboard details add a shades of Techno to a track built on its organic drum break and undulating bassline.

Gerudo EP

PREMIERE: Yak - Zip [Phonica Records]

DynArec channels Detroit musical history through his own French perspective on a superb new EP for Zone.
Despite making music since 1994, DynArec didn’t release any of it until a decade later. It landed on cult techno label Delsin and since then he has honed in on his own brand of Drexcyian electro over the course of EPs and LPs that have been supported by giants such as Laurent Garnier and Dave Clarke. Here his tough beats but heartfelt harmonies shine through once more.
First out of the blocks is ‘Toi_Moi’ with well swung drums run through by frazzled bass. Tinny metal hits and a dehumanised vocal bring the heat as the whole thing builds to a tense and frantic peak that will blow up the club. The excellent ’Archeologist Assassin’ is a much more twisted and freeform track with hard hitting drums and prickly synths making for a turbulent trip.
It is next cut ‘Target De Down’ that is the most frenetic, with its whirring stabs and machine gun lasers whipping up a real storm on the floor. Bringing a tripped out and off-kilter vibe is ‘Focussed’ with its crashing hits, incessant bass and popping keys all jerking you into action.
This is tense, industrial tinged electro that is perfect for strobe lit club settings.

Toi et Moi

A year after the success of the first Princes Of Abzu أبزو موالي release, mystical Lyon based imprint Hard Fist comes back with a superb second volume that is once again dedicated to Arabic cultures. Like the first compilation, Vol. 2 gathers a strong cast of international artists from Russia, France, Turkey, Germany, Japan and Israel. All are united by a common passion for Middle- Eastern and North African sounds and are fascinated by the deep psychedelic effects of the melodies and the transcendental power of the rhythms. Trying to build cultural bridges across the world, powering connections between dance floor activists, Hard Fist thinks of Princes Of Abzu not only as a compilation but as a tool to give space for expression to local legends like Kaan Duzarat in Istanbul, or upcoming artists such as Linja or Feller who debut here on wax. Mekine U Teksi introduce the EP with a progressive but super intense track starting with ambient atmospheric synths which remind you of a night walk in the middle of the desert, before building the intensity in their Anatolian post-kraut universe. With the excellent ‘Sine’, Lyon based five-piece band AYMA collaborate with one of the most iconic producers in Istanbul, Kaan Duzarat, who owns the Analog Culture records store and together they cook up a magical Turkish house anthem. Written as a tribute to the cult Istanbul club of the same name, Japanese DJ Que Sakamato and his studio shadow NT offer a cerebral dark disco cut mixed with Oud samples and cosmic synths on ‘Minimüzikhol’ to great effect. Coming from the Ural Mountains in Siberia, the mysterious LINJA debuts here and delivers a breakbeat percussive banger, full of crazy weirdo FX, based on strong and raw acid basslines. To close this fine compilation, label debutant and edit master Feller delivers ‘Strange Night for Hassan’, a track built on a Darbuka solo played by the percussionist Nadav Dgon and deconstructed by the producer. Supported by strong kicks and rising acid lines, this cut is definitely the most intense of the lot. Princes Of Abzu is a hedonist movement that cares more about vibes and feelings than borders and nationalities and that is perfectly represented here again with this second offering in the series.

Pablo Valentino is a talented French DJ & has been playing since 1998. He’s a well-travelled, music collector and the founder and owner of MCDE Recordings, which he runs together with his close friend Motor City Drum Ensemble. He also runs FACES Records which has recently celebrated 15 years of the label. Pablo is known for his energic and eclectic DJ sets, from House, Disco, Brazilian to Boogie, Techno & Soul. Since 2014 he’s been running a monthly residency called "Children Of The Drum" that’s big on the French club scene, with nights at Le Sucre in Lyon & Rex, Paris.

The A-side kicks us off with ‘Bananas’, with its edgy house groove and up-tempo piano riff.  Following on with a more downtempo chillout jazzy track ’Inspiraçao’. On the flip ‘Space Tribe’ goes lo-fi, featuring the beautiful and echoing synth sounds of veteran London producer, Simbad.  There’s a digital exclusive available of the title track too.
