It's time for the 2019 edition of Cocoon's letter compilation series. Sven Vath's annual offering has now reached "S" in the alphabet and offers up 12 distinct dance music bangers from both veterans and fresh talents making their debut on the legendary label.

To celebrate the compilation's release, Cocoon has handed over John Talabot and Axel Boman contribution, 'Big Room Anthemic Groovy Pounding Trance Dub Bomb. Superb!'. Boasting what Cocoon is calling "the most bombastic track name of the year", the Talaboman duo's latest track brings angular trance riffs and shuffling percussion together to create an absolute dancefloor win.

Making their debut on Eskimo Recordings this March, Berlin producers Franz Matthews & Local Suicide’s ‘Meditation / Tutan Jamon' was a heady brew of psychedelic disco that joined the dots between the German capital and the sun soaked souks of North Africa. 

Hailed as “propulsive and zen” by Resident Advisor and championed by DJs including Dj T, Red Axes, Perel & Acid Washed, the tracks have now been giving a fresh rub, with Eskimo going one better even than the genie from the Arabian Nights and fulfilling 4 wishes summoning up remixes from Manfredas, Chaim, NTEIBINT and The Oddness.

First out of the trap is Lithuanian producer Manfredas. Having made a name for himself with releases on labels like Les Disques de la Mort, Multi Culti and I’m A Cliché, Manfredas turns in a head spinning remix of Tutan Jamon, teasing out and extending the track in a masterclass of delayed gratification that eventually dissolves into acidic bleeps and drones. https://soundcloud.com/manfredas

Tel Aviv’s Chaim remix of Tutan Jamon meanwhile sees the sometime Bpitch Control and Disco Halal producer up the tempo whilst losing none of the original’s exotic vibe. In his hands the track becomes a propulsive and trippy disco number perfect for late summer parties under the stars.

Eskimo stalwart NTEIBINT is up next with his reinterpretation of Meditation. Once again the Greek producer goes to show just why the label has him on speed dial, delivering a stunning remix with Vamparela’s vocals and a hypnotic bass line combining to mesmerising effect.

Finally fresh from remixing Satin Jackets Australian rising star The Oddness returns to Eskimo with his own spaced out take on Meditation. Keeping the tempo slow and low the Melbourne producer unravels the track, pulling apart its constituent parts and allowing them all to float free.

Having previously released on labels like Running Back and Royal Oak, Swedish producer and DJ Arkajo - who also makes up one half of duo Genius Of Time - returns to Aniara Recordings, the label he co-runs with Fabian Bruhn and Dorisburg. His Nadir EP showcases his own contemporary take on electronic music; three tracks laced with intricate drum programming and heavy subs.

Originally released in 2000 as an extremely limited white label promo, Voy-E's 'Day Off' EP is a little known nugget of gold that was produced during Florida's breakbeat boom in the late '90s. Sadly, due to label complications, this gem never went on to receive the full release it deserved. Luckily for us, newly formed London-based label Bluff Records has stepped in to save the day - having spent months tirelessly tracking down the original label owner, who now resides in North Carolina, USA.

Lovingly restored from the original master CD, the EP consists of three beautifully crafted club tracks, each touching on elements of breakbeat, rave and electro. Our pick for the premiere is the title track 'Day Off'.

'Banoffee Pies Records drop their 12th release in the original series with a solo EP from New York-based Tristan Arp. With a string of intricate music on the likes of Human Pitch and a recent LP entitled “Suggested Forms”, which offers a wider exploration into his work, Tristan’s passion for sound design echoes in this record.

All four tracks offer an environment somewhere between a feeling and a dance floor with obscure influences in polyrhythmic drum patterns and a clear combination of digital and analogue processing. “Swept Thru” opens proceedings with a spiral of rhythms and heavy percussion leaping in energy throughout.

R&S founder Renaat Vandepapeliere returns with the first expanded compilation in his personal RV Trax series showcasing the hypnotic sounds he plays on the dancefloor. In this fifth installment, Vandepapeliere has chosen 9 groove-laden tracks from an array of talented electronic artists representing Belgium, England, Argentina, Northern Ireland, Italy, France, and Germany.

A frustrated drummer at heart, every one of the tracks on RV Trax Vol 5 (and previous volumes) has the shared DNA of heavy percussive workouts - keeping the focus of the music on the drums. This premiere's 'noos' by VENDi is certainly no exception, showcasing its intentions early on, with a spine of breaks intertwined in a moody melody that anchor the track from start to finish.

Jan Schulte aka Bufiman releases his drum rhythm versions from his latest Dekmantel LP ‘Albumsi'.

In his own words: “Hi, my name is Bufiman and I do drum music for world peace and dance music for frogs. I recently released a longplayer called ‘Albumsi' on Dekmantel. While doing the mix-downs for ‘Albumsi' I realized how much effort I had put in it and how it might even seem overproduced in comparison to other records of mine. This was the result of ‘Albumsi’ being in the first year after quitting all other jobs to focus completely on music. It was the first time I had a studio, some gear and time all at once, at the same moment. So during the mixing process I realized how carefully and loaded the drum tracks were, I even had unused leftover drum material… I also just found a Dutch record heavily inspired by the classic Jive Rhythm Trax with the name 'Mix Your Own Breaks - Construction in Music' with an accompanying text that inspired my idea to do some of my own rhythm trax versions: "The compositions on this LP only consist of rhythms and sound effects. They can be used as: a transition between two records, to be mixed as a break in between and for the production of jingles. Have a lot of fun with these breaks!" Or in Dutch, as originally printed on the record: VEEL MIX-PLEZIER MET DEZE BREAKS - Een multifunctionele LP voor Discjockeys, Thuismixers en geluids-amateurs.”
