The intriguing tale of French duo Kimshies continues... Their sole release from 2004 re-upped into the ether by Solomun in 2018, it triggered a return to the studio after almost 15 years. Making up for lost time, they've already dropped two exceptional EP's on Nein. Now comes their Duro debut... And it's a perfect dark disco match.

Even the title says as much 'Fucked Up Mama': a scuzzy, frazzled jam rich in oiled distortion and lighting strike synths and a rising case of venomous acid mid-way, there's a grit in the groove that's going to take more than a few lockdown handwashes to feel clean from. It's coupled by a series of equally forthright remixes: fresh from completing his debut album for Life & Death, Disco Halal alumni Autarkic strips your mama down to her kickdrum undies and redresses her in a dynamic laser laced charmer.

He's in good company... Nein brethren Cabaret Nocturne makes a welcome appearance with a creeping dark electro twist while La Dame Noir's Arthur Johnson gets busy with two perspectives; one where the swing and organs provide funky refreshment and a bonus one which takes us right back into the gritty analog mama-fucking attitude of the original. Lazarusman has made a huge name for himself in the last couple of years with vocal features for Stimming, Jonas Rathmans, Joris Voorn and Huxley among others, quickly becoming one of the most recognizable voices of modern House Music with his slam poetry style. Here he is with a solo release. Are you excited? We certainly are. ‘The Signal’ is a song, or rather a musical poem about courtship in 2020. In his inimitable, contemplatative style, the young South African recounts the voice messages of a man to a woman after their first meeting. It is about infatuation, insecurity, the desire for a soul mate, shyness, wondering… and those blue ticks. The EP features “The Signal” in three versions. Lazarusman’s original presents this lyrical piece of art on a deep, yet bouncing instrumental. With crisp drumming and an emotional synth melody, it works equally well for attentive listening as well as for dancing - if they let you.
Both remixes here are by Julian Gomes. His first version amps up the energy levels with heavier kicks and quick percussions but keeps the deepness with atmospheric, syncopated chords and far-away pads. Adding layers throughout, this remix is quite a ride. Julian’s Vox Dub gets down to business in a straight, driving fashion, reducing the vocals to their very essence and letting the drum machines rock out, while still offering up a bed of floating harmonies for Lazarusman’s emotional words.

Returning to production duties for the 4th release on their evolving Meanwhile imprint, GMJ and Matter present "Eldarin". A pair of remixes come from Sri Lankan and Colombian talents.

Hitting their straps on numerous occasions across a broad and celebrated career, GMJ and Matter continue to make waves in Port Phillip Bay with their distinctive and renowned musical style. Joining forces on over 50 production credits for the likes of Anjunadeep, Balance Music and Proton Music, GMJ and Matter's combined talent is a formidable force. Now reprising the success of their "Lost on Origin" and "Gauntlet" EPs for Meanwhile, the pair come together for a third time. "Eldarin" is a typically dynamic affair with all the hallmarks that have made the pair such revered names in the underground dance scene. A glorious bouncing bassline groove and ticking hi-hat percussion lays the foundation for densely textured pads to weave their way across the near 9-minute offering. Redolent in trademark delays and reverb tails, subtle motifs meander across proceedings before an extended piano sequence cascades across the breakdown. Building to a crescendo at the mid-point, a driving third movement introduces glorious white-noise washes and driving beat, combining with melodic elements to evocative and mesmerising effect.

A multiple award-winning DJ, Subandrio Sinhawansa has become a force to be reckoned with via the undulating musical tapestries that represent his work behind the decks. A seasoned traveller with performances across Middle East and his Sri Lankan home, contemporaneously, a high-profile production career finds Subandrio with over a double-century of credits to his name as he joins the catalogues of some of the finest imprints including Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital, Cid Inc.'s Replug and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. Now making his Meanwhile debut, the Subandrio remix is a highly intelligent reworking of "Eldarin" that retains the rhythmic and bassline integrity of the original while introducing a swathe of new melodic material that bristles with arpeggiated sequences that shimmer in delays and subtle new phrasing. The result is a commanding rework that launches powerfully into the post-breakdown denouement with heavy beat and strong dancefloor character.

Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat represent another high-calibre musical pairing. From Cali, southwest of the Bogota capital, the duo has been a mainstay of the Colombian underground dance movement and beyond South American borders. With successful careers under their respective solo guises and amassing over a half-century of combined productions, Sanclemente and Dabeat have found their music allied to some of the industry's finest blue-chip imprints that include Mango Alley, UV and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden. A Meanwhile debut finds the pair on scintillating form as chugging, head-shaking rhythm creates a vibrant backdrop for fizzing white-noise washes and sweeping pads to roll across the Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat remix. Gentle melodic flourishes caress the mid-range with style and panache as they rise in prominence through an open filter that ushers in a sublime new melodic groove in the third movement alongside a high-energy counterpoint motif and striking cadence. The result is a highly original reworking with its roots firmly in GMJ and Matter's original.

Creating a new musical language, "Eldarin" speaks volumes about the talents of GMJ and Matter, Subandrio and Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat.

With an abundance of amazing tunes and music coming out of these restricted times, it’s made for a bumper crop of wonky chuggers, acid heaters and sun kissed Balearic bangers for our annual ‘A Summer Riot’ EP.  So much so, that’s this year’s IX instalment has bolstered considerably, now spreading over two editions, and with 6 tracks apiece from some of our favourite producers.

Seasoned Futureboogie pros, Christophe and PBR Streetgang, head up the selection on Part Two, with Christophe delivering a meaty, reverb soaked, acid brain bender on ‘Critters 2 (The Revenge)’, whilst the PBR boys offer up a sleez and seductive Moroder inspired romp.

Glasgow’s Manakinz make a second appearance across the two ‘A Summer Riot IX’ releases, with the hypnotising ‘Mystic Throbber’, whilst Roe Deers come good with the quirky and funky sounds of ‘Monkey Dance’.

‘Fire In Zero Gravity’ by duo Acolyte, touches on Detroit techno soul and inspirative piano work for their entry, and Jakobin seals off the EP with the ghostly ambience and shuffling beats of ‘Mighty Mt’.

"It's a dark Afro house track that tells a story of Azuka, a little girl getting chased by warriors because of her birthmark identical to the sinister sorceress Uru, who will then be saved by the earthbound elemental spirit Isi-Agu. This story is from African mythology and I wanted to reflect that in my song by giving a good bouncy rhythm with the snare and low Tom in between each kick, a catchy synth, and heavy drops. In this song I really tried chose my instruments and Drums carefully so it reflects the story of African warriors. “

Israeli artist Kino Todo continues to put himself in the spotlight with an innovative new EP on DJ Tennis's Life And Death that features a track with countrymen Red Axes. 

Todo's multicultural sounds on Jenia Tarsol’s and Chaim’s Blue Shadow records, where he released his first ep with hit banger “Gidafi Na” as well as on Moscoman’s Disco Halal have made him one of the most promising new artists in the scene. He is someone with a psyched out style that fuses long, drawn out drum machine rhythms with intoxicating synths as well as influences from prog and rock. His music is colourful and charming and always refreshingly original. His last release, 'Yasmin', was his biggest yet, but this new offering shows another mature evolution for such a young artist. 

Opener 'Goa Kids' is a bristling and uplifting arrangement that is always on the move. It comes on strong with a percussive jumble of hits and tambourines that ride in loose fashion over a surging groove. Warm, rich bass pumps down low, enchanting flutes and youthful vocal chants all get you locked and take you on a charming trip. The lively 'Paradox' is a more broken beat, with twisted synths and sci-fi sound effects all underpinned by booming kicks as alien vocals are layered in with sirens and pixelated pads. It is a fantastic collision of musical worlds. 

The vital 'Vocus Pocus' is a Middle Eastern rave that overflows with musical imagery, ghoulish vocals, juddering kicks and retro-future synth lasers that prepare you for take off. Last of all, the esteemed Red Axes duo join the party for 'Boom Shaki Boom', a tripped out and freaky cut of Israeli acid techno that is riddled with edgy pads and intergalactic sounds. 

These are complex and characterful tracks that draw on a wide range of cultural references and reimagine them as dance floor dynamite.

'Music is 4 Lovers is hyped to release these two big afro house tunes from Vancouver-based producer, Rafael Drager, and Venezuelan artists, Alberto Dimeo and Yirvin.

The two original tracks get massive remixes from vet Dutch producer, Loulou Players, and the hot Italian duo, The Deepshakerz.

Kiss Me is scheduled to hit digital platforms on Friday, November 6, 2020.'
