Forest Hills is still my favorite, though the TDK cassette bought from a blanket on Astor Place is long gone.

What a fantastic episode, really loved all the anecdotes from Chris Frantz about NYC in 1970s! I remember speaking to Chris in Manchester after a Chapo live show, about David Byrne and he made reference to the uneasy relationship between Chris F & Tina and David Byrne which preceded Frantz' book being released and Byrne's behaviour being made public. I think at the time I remember saying that Byrne seemed like someone with ASD (speaking as someone who is on spectrum myself, though of course that shouldn't be used to excuse poor behaviour) and hearing that anecdote at the end of this episode does kind of correlate for me.

On our maiden voyage, we deliver an elegy for JD Vance's bestseller 'Hillbilly Elegy' while also paying homage to R+B legends Gerald Levert (RIP), Keith Sweat, and Johnny Gill.

*Upon further review, Eric Williams, whom we do a bit about on this one, is a respected scholar whose words we clearly took out of context and drew the wrong conclusions about. His radical critique of capitalism and the slave economy was a gap in our knowledge, and we're embarrassed to say we botched that one. But, still, fuck JD.
