The first Planet Rhythm release for 2016 features a selection of artists to look out for this year. With their recent big vinyl release on PRRUKLTD TWR72 seems to be one of the current steady forces within the label at the moment. The London-based young talented producer Jamie Haus makes his Planet Rhythm debut and from which we will be hearing lots more over the next few months. Niereich from Austria, known for releasing on Sleaze and Affin, teams up with Tresor-resident Krenzlin. Finishing off the release is the US-based producer Milkplant!

Cocytus, meaning "the river of wailing“, is a river in the underworld in Greek mythology. It flows into the river Acheron, across which is the underworld, the mythological abode of the dead. Dante describes Cocytus in Inferno as being the home of traitors and those who committed acts of complex fraud. The river of wailing is divided into four arms:

Antenora, after Antenor from the Iliad; traitors to country.
Judecca, after Judas Iscariot; traitors to masters and benefactors.
Caina, after the Biblical Cain; traitors to blood relatives.
Ptolomea, after Ptolemy, governor of Jericho, who murdered his guests (1 Maccabees); traitors to guests.

Based on these assumptions COT labelhead HOURS crafted three pensive tracks, one of which was reinterpreted by Brian Sanhaji.

A work 12 months in the making, Adam Beyer continues his exciting series of collaborative EPs, teaming up with heavy-hitters Pig&Dan for an multi-faceted four-tracker.

Chances are up if you spied Adam Beyer in an airport departure lounge over the past 12 months, he’d have his head buried in his laptop, immersed in creating sound sketches. A long-time fan of collaborations, the Drumcode chief has been on an inspiring streak of form lately, teaming up with the likes of Mark Reeve, Dense & Pika and now Pig&Dan. The results have been compelling, to say the least. 

In trademark perfectionist Beyer style, the title track ‘Capsule’ – a shimmering slice of techno - involved “around 15 different versions” the track rigorously road tested by the Swede and featured in episodes of Drumcode Radio to test dancefloor reactions, before finally getting the sign off.  ‘In Love’ is a big room techno groover, driven by crisp drums and the kind of evocative vocal effect that’ll have hairs standing on ends. ‘Atmosfear’ is true to its name, centered on a menacing synth line and gritty percussion, its deep kicks and subterranean bass combining superbly to create a heady dancefloor brew. ‘We Are E’ is propelled by a catchy synth hook and a classic call-to-arms vocal, which tips its cap to the artists’ shared love of classic UK rave.

Munich Based Julian Wassermann glides in between his usual areas of musical dexterity, blending Deep Techno and Electronica into a souring four-tracker.

First of the lot, Sol, offers up a fluid melody dotted with acidic synths. Evident from the get go, the track bears a clear cinematic underpinning, a common mark throughout the entire release. All elements are geared towards elevating the overall experience, resulting in a highly emotive and captivating piece.

Hazy atmosphere is the main theme in Lyra, a towering tech house exploration featuring misty vocals and zippy synths. It’s a construction that sustains a light headed tension, equally immersive and spellbinding thanks to the airy vocal chops.

Lofty moods meet fiendish ambiance in Sirius, a whirlwinding cut fit for late night antics. Evoking a surreal, dungeon-like setting seems to come easy to the artist, who balances out light and obscure on the entirety of the EP.

Argon is not just a noble gas, but in this case a high strung slice of techno, powering through with arrays of metallic synths and an upbeat melody. Edgy elements combine with arching synths and snappy bites, building up a perfect dancefloor weapon to round the release off in style.
