Ending the year in style, Meanwhile celebrates its 39th release with label head-honchos, GMJ & Matter showcasing a 3-track epic in “EXT 135 / Elemental / Time to Space”.

Artists who have risen rapidly to secure permanent seats at underground dance’s top table, GMJ & Matter excel within the DJ and production arenas. Responsible for some of the most intelligent and atmospheric progressive house music the industry has seen and an ironclad provenance behind them, the Melbourne based duo have been leading lights in their hometown and beyond for more than 15 years. Hugely respected artists in their own rights with over 500 individual production credits each, a century has come within their collaborative partnership.

As such, original gems have included several original EPs for Proton Music, with additional work finding its way onto the likes of Anjunadeep, onedotsixtwo and Balance Music. However, it is on Meanwhile where the Australian duo have joined forces with such style and grace. From 2020’s “Lost on Origin”, “Gauntlet” and “Eldarin” to 2021’s “The Path /Perfect Storm”, plus remixes for Alex O’Rion, Rich Curtis and Roger Martinez, GMJ & Matter have been at the vanguard of modern progressive house as they now return for another stellar outing.

“EXT 135” is a fizzing powerhouse of hi-hat percussion and white-noise fills as immaculately filtered melodies emerge from the rhythmic melange alongside a chorus of expertly woven pads. A gentle vocal cut adds a melancholy vibe as the track pauses for breath at the breakdown before blossoming once more into the second half with ease and trademark aplomb.

Continuing the rich rhythmic foundation of its predecessor, “Elemental” develops a stunning rolling cadence and swung percussion that provides the perfect platform for a warm blanket of textured pads and pulsating melodies to emerge. Redolent in delays and effects, a reverse-reverb vocal chant creates tension and variation while a simple motif holds fort in the background, helping rhythm and melody gel across the track’s duration.

The final track sees “Time To Space” propelled forwards with cavernous bass groove, ticking percussion and laser beam effects. Evolving elegantly, a sustained pad creates an Underworld-esque backdrop from which a chunky synth motif filters into sonic range before being juxtaposed by a glassy counterpoint phrase. Building through the breakdown, the tracks hits its stride once more in the latter stages with an expansive soundstage and metronomic groove.

Illustrating unrivalled talent and craftsmanship, GMJ & Matter once again conquer the progressive house landscape with “EXT135 / Elemental / Time To Space”.

In the studio, a connoisseur of the underground dance scene with a sound that has evolved into a blend of fascinating rhythms and atmospheric melodies, Kostya Outta has seen over 200 production credits grace some of the finest modern labels since a 2012 debut for Deep Nota. From Afterglow Records and Mango Alley to Deepwibe Underground and Statement!, the Kostya Outta portfolio continues to grow apace, supported by such esteemed figures as Guy J, Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo.   

Now making his first appearance on Proportion, “On Waves” is an elegantly imagined offering that opens with a heavy beat, crisp rhythmic shell and cadenced clave pattern. A muted arpeggio weaves its magic as sumptuous pads and evolving sonic textures create a dense and swirling atmosphere. White-noise sequences pulsate at the breakdown as motifs extend their reach before snare rolls and pitched risers herald a return to the club-friendly combination of rhythm and melody in the second half.   Riding high, Kostya Outta is “On Waves” with his stunning new music for Proportion.'

'Echosphere' is the new three-original-track EP by the artist David Hammond known by his stage name SOLIS [US] @solis , in his first release on Univack. Besides, the EP is completed with a remix by the great artists HERNAN CATTANEO @hernancattaneo & SIMPLY CITY @simply_city_music

David Hammond, known by his stage name Solis [US], is a Madison, Wisconsin-based DJ & producer specializing in Deep Progressive House. His sound often carries an uplifting melodic quality, shaped by his early musical journey as a bassist at age 15, later transitioning into jazz and lead guitar. However, David eventually discovered his true passion in electronic music.

Solis [US] aims to offer listeners a more sophisticated and emotionally nuanced experience, moving beyond the typical hands-in-the-air anthems or dark, minor-key moods common in dance music. He strives for a slightly melancholic yet thoughtful vibe that ultimately leaves listeners feeling uplifted. His goal is to create tracks that are just as enjoyable in personal moments—whether driving or socializing—as they are on the dancefloor.

Tracks like “Echosphere” and “Electricolor” were inspired by his reflective sunset walks along Madison’s Lakeshore Path, while “Asiya” was crafted specifically with the dancefloor in mind, bringing a fun yet musically distinct energy.

The EP is completed by the awesome remix from the most representative DJ in the worldwide Progressive House scene for the last two decades, el maestro Hernan Cattaneo, in collaboration with the also experienced DJ & producer Simply City. This remix is the third release of both artists on Univack, and another evidence of their perfect symbiosis when they make music together.

Born in Rosario in the province of Santa Fe, Lucas Degiorgi has been involved in the underground dance scene for over a decade. With music signed to such esteemed imprints as One Of A Kind, Balkan Connection and Mistique Music, it is a pleasure to welcome the Argentinean to Particles. Maintaining a rich percussive narrative that flows through the quartet of original tracks with its roots in South American rhythms, "Charger" builds with ease via heavy bassline groove, powerful synth motifs and syncopated patterns. Textured pads, reverb-rich vocals and white-noise effects add to the potent aural collage. Accompanied by heavy beat and evocative breakdown, sparkling delayed synths permeate "Meteoro" in moving patterns, while subtle melodic layers add intrigue aplenty. The ambient effects and birdsong of "Iguazú" trip alongside free-flowing jazz phrases and layered vocal phrasing to create a unique affair. A 4/4 kick, off-beat percussion and recurring synth trope provide familiar club-friendly rhythms in a highly original piece. "Midnight" returns to more traditional progressive house fare as dominant beat and off-beat hats and shakers lay the foundation of flowing pads and repeated motifs create an atmosphere that lends itself well to the title. Subtle additions post-breakdown add further to the eerie vibe and overall track evolution.

No stranger to the Particles roster, Blood Groove & Kikis bid a welcome return to the label. Regulars on Silk Music, Spring Tube and Perplexity Music, a 2015 debut remixing Australian star, GMJ, began an impressive Particles portfolio. Further reworkings of Andre Sobota, East Café and Matt Rowan & Robbie Lowe in mid-2020 has continued an impressive collection as the Latvian duo now return to Particles with a stellar reworking of "Charger". Full of trademark silky smooth production skills, a strong beat and sublime rolling groove form the backbone for a chugging, head-shaking remix to drive forward with heavy bass pattern in tow. Richly textured pads add to the sonic collage as echoes of Degiorgi's original ripple across the mid-range. A swathe of original production from the Latvian pair can be heard throughout as the track reaches new and dynamic intensity in the second half.

2020 newcomers to the underground production scene, Peruvian and Mexican duo, Stranger Tourists, have made quite an impression with their distinctive organic and deep house sound. With a lofty ambition to "tell stories and express emotions through music", the pair have hit the ground running after their "Call of the Ancients EP" for Mirrors Label in January. Going on to see their work featured for the likes of RYNTH, Suprematic and The Purr, Stranger Tourists make their Particles debut with an imaginative reworking of "Charger" that captures the organic house vibe of the original with its ambient birdsong while adding an array of new melodic production material that gives their remix a melancholic air. Full of rhythmic charm with driving beat, reverb-soaked vocal phrasing and acoustic guitar add further weight to an opulent remix.

Lucas Degiorgi has provided an impressive debut "Journey" with a quartet of originals and remixes from Blood Groove & Kikis and Stranger Tourists.
