There's no need for ultra technical shit to make a good death metal song, you just need 4 riffs (so easy that even I can play them), some straight forward drums (so straight forward that even the SSD5.5 can play them :D )
and a powerful voice (talking about Chris Barnes, of course).

This is something I've made in 2009, never released it, now I've re-mastered it and here it is, for the enjoyment of all you metalheads out there!
Just go easy with the comments, I know I'm risking a shitstorm with this one, but let's open our minds and at least appreciate the work put here, shall we?

Pantera - Cemetery Gates (The Brainless 59 House Remix)

Here you have a multitrack provided by The Black Crown of their song "Flames" ( look for it here https://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms/mtk/#Rock ), that I have "mixed" using ONLY my Platinum Level IV console, so there's no compression, no reverbs, no delays, no fx, nothing, except on the vocals, 'cause they go from soft on the verse to loud on the chorus, so I've compressed 'em and put a little reverb before hitting the console, but that's all, you can tell by listening to how dry are the drums.
Of course this isn't a proper mix and I'm not pretending it is, but it's kind of a demo of the sound possibilities of my analog console, since there are almost 0 infos around about it, so maybe someone might be interested...
Just go on the link of the multitrack and compare it to their mix if you want, or simply listen to mine and enjoy some analog goodness!

This isn't really a proper "cover", it's a reinterpretation of a beautiful atmospheric song by a friend and great Sicilian songwriter, Leonardo "Peppe" Gallato.

It stuck with me since day one, and since day one I always knew it'd be a great metal song, now you tell me, was I wrong?

I've rearranged the whole song, then played, recorded, mixed and mastered everything by myself in my home studio.
This is the first time I properly mixed on an analog console and I am truly satisfied and happy with the results!

This is NOT my entry to the "Malamor – Dead To The World 2022" contest ( https://ratemymix.com/forum/dead-to-the-world-by-malamor-mix-remix-contest/ ) even though I fear it would be a better one since almost nobody went for an old school mix...whatever...
I've done this more "modern" sounding version just to demonstrate that I can go both old school and "new school",
Of course the tracks used are the same as the previous "old school" mix, so for something recorded in 1997 this is "modern" enough I'd say, without overdoing it!

I've replaced all the drums, trying to recreate all the dynamics.
All guitars and bass have been "replaced" as well, meaning I've reamped the DIs with 100% digital stuff (the plugins I've used aren't even actual amp sims, more about it in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_2vDJcrjUc )
It doesn't get faker than this! (actually with midi guitars and bass this could have been the king of fake mix)
I must say that NOTHING beats real recorded drums anyway, except maybe the drummer (ba dum tss!) :D

SMG Fake Drums Challenge

So, since I received some eye opening comments about the previuos version of this cover, here you have a new mix, this time I tried harder, and I think I got close to what I wanted.
This is not my genre, I don't listen to prog/metalcore, so my first attempt was made solely on speculations and stupid thoughts I had on the "modern metal sound", I thought it was easy to replicate....oh I was wrong!
But I think this time I didn't screw up, so, feedbacks and comments on what and how to improve are more than welcome!

Architects - Naysayer (instrumental cover)

Well, I'm not exclusively "metal oriented", I listen to almost anything if it's good enough, and this song is a great one!
Plus it brings so much memories of the good times spent playing Bunrnout 3 with the guys...
Anyway, I've played and recorded both bass and guitars here, so the result isn't that precise or well played, but still enjoyable!
Of course reamped and mixed by myself as well.
Ten points if you guess which amp as been used on guitars!

Funeral For A Friend - Rookie Of The Year (Instrumental cover)

I'm a certified sound tech from Alessandria (Italy).
I started playing bass guitar and singing in 2001, then a couple years later I felt the urge to learn how to record my music, so I went on a journey through DAWs, VSTs, MICs, EQs, COMPRESSORs, and all the other strange words that "music sorcerers" use in their dark lairs made of woods and black pyramidal panels.
I got a certificate in 2019 with my name on it near "sound technician", so I guess I'm a legit tech now! It's a dream come true!
My professional goal is to give the opportunity to all musicians to have their songs produced in a professional way, giving all the advices I can (good or bad it's up to you to decide), following the creative process of a song/record from the very beginning (if required).
