The song “Hardest Time of Year” is very close to my heart. I wrote it our first Christmas alone. I was the woman sitting alone on the couch staring at the Christmas tree crying.  My oldest son, was the young boy trying to be strong for his Mom.

Christmas is a beautiful and joyful time of year, to celebrate with family and friends. However, I know that it is the hardest time of the year for those who are hurting, whose homes are broken, who have lost a loved one, and who feel alone.

There is hope through the tears.

Hardest Time Of Year

The first two lines of the chorus came to me a year ago and I wrote them down and left them. I knew that at some point God would help me finish the song. I was in church last Sunday and the Pastor spoke on Romans 8:5-8 from the Message Bible and the one line really touched my heart. It used the words, "Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God" 

The line in the song, "I've focused on me long enough" touches my heart. In my life there are so many times that I think I can do it on my own. It's not enough. I'm not that strong to handle this life without Him.  I got this song just before we had to deal with a family illness. It's been speaking to my heart and helping me through this tough time. I hope it speaks to yours.

Stir the Waters

This year for Christmas we decided to do homemade gifts for each other. We do a family draw and I got my Father-in-law's name. He loves horses and at first I thought maybe I would paint a picture for him with watercolours. Then my husband suggested I write a song.

He is an amazing man! He loves his horses and enjoys sharing them with his family and friends. Horses are his passion. So this song is dedicated to Rod Vestby. We love you!  Thank you for all the great memories and many more to come. May you be blessed with many years in the saddle.

He's Been Out For Hours

The song "No Place I'd Rather Be" is close to my heart. Chad had gone to Florida for a conference and I was on my own for a week.  The one thing I missed most is that every night he wraps me in his arms and says "This is the best part of my day." I really missed hearing that. So I wrote this song to capture our love. It is a glimpse of the beautiful love God has given us. There is no place I'd rather be than in his arms.
