Man of the moment Jesse Calosso steps up with the first release on Boogeyman, a brand new sub label from The Martinez Brothers's legendary Cuttin Headz. It is A&Red by Jesse himself and after kicking off with a fantastic compilation showcasing the sound and talent the label will deal in, Calosso now offers two superb tunes of his own. 

First up is Boogeytime, a sifting, stripped back tech house cut with late night bass and tripped out melodies. The clipped kicks and razor sharp hi hats all add up to an infectious groove that cannot fail to lock in the floor. What Did You Say is a more playful and bouncy track, with a real sense of electronic funk in the low slung bass and kicks. The track has a real sense of streetwise swagger and is the sort of pure, classy body music that makes floors go wild.

With this EP, Calosso ensures Boogeyman is a vital label right from the off.

Napoli’s nicest Dj Dep applies the personal touch with his welcome return to the Clarisse control room. Master of the ‘Dirty Synth’ and happy to get ‘Loose and Casual’, Luigi de Palma has left his fingerprints all over turntables across the globe, his sound dug by Carl Cox, Nic Fanciulli, Marco Carola, Pete Tong, Matthias Tanzmann and Joseph Capriati. Labels-wise, Circus, Elrow, Deeperfect and Defected are a five-star sample section of those benefitting from the patent brand of Dep dexterity.

‘Touch Me’ takes on a classic rough against smooth formula. At the top end, free-spirited female vocals, restless with a risqué edge, look for skin-on-skin contact, surrounded by spectral, glitchy shimmers and a percolator of a rhythm. All of a bit of a headswim in isolation, whereas lower down, Dep’s spicy bassline, swelling, heaving and withdrawing like clockwork, duels with beats bursting with clout to let you know you’re in a dancefloor battle.

Reactivating the track with his usual fluid style, Mendo comes to the party with fizzy percussion click-clacking its way to the top, and continues to make the vocals dart and wink in and out of the mix so the club is completely under the temptress’ spell to the point of orgasm. Guaranteed to get everyone loose with its bobbing and bouncing bass, Mendo softens the edges of the original while keeping the temperature topped up, and puts Dep’s shivery samples through their paces like an icy blast on top. A pair of dancefloors movers Midas would’ve been proud of.

Rone White & Rowen Clark step up on remix duties, adding some dirtiness, plenty of groove, and a phat bassline. Retaining the original flavours, but adding a jackin edge slant, big drum rolls, cool use of the vocal, and a helping of dirtiness on the side. Pow!

'Hold Up' wraps up this EP, and is again full of groove and has that edge straddling tech house flavours and beyond. Cool vocal samples, fx and quality production all gell wonderfully and pack a punch.
